Everything in one form another is our fault.
It’s not this or that pope’s fault. It’s not this or that bishop’s or priest’s fault. It’s not the hierarchy’s fault.
It’s our fault.
We didn’t raise our children well enough.
We didn’t pray or offer sacrifices enough for the Church, or for this or that priest.
We didn’t do enough.
We gossipped too much.
We didn’t read the Catechism and form ourselves sufficiently.
We didn’t put enough love into each Mass we went to.
We didn’t go to Confession well enough or frequently enough, or sincerely enough.
We didn’t defend the Church.
We skirted the Church teaching on “generous Marriage”.
We gave into comfort too much.
We fanned our vanity too frequently, or nursed resentment too much.
We held grudges.
We didn’t use ALL of our talents, we held back unlike the widow in the Gospel.
We stopped well short of loving God with all our heart, mind, soul and strength.
We doubted…and do anything about it.
We didn’t trust in God.
We too infrequently immersed ourselves in His Scripture, His advice to us.
We treated a life of piety as a checklist, not a love affair.
