it's Ramadan.

No there is not! Stop being so ignorant, honestly, if this ignorance and close minded wont stop, I’m not even going to bother replying to such comments. Its getting so annoying. We all know Islam was influenced a lot by Eastern Catholicism, so don’t mind me when I get attracted to traditions such as Ramadan, because I know these are people FASTING for GOD OKAY? Not for Mohamed but for God. If you have a problem with that deal it on judgment day.
I know Muslims do not fast during Ramadan for Muhammad. That’s just silly and I never suggested any such thing. I am aware that they are fasting in observance of what they consider to be God’s law. That’s all fine. The problem is not with Muslims fasting during Ramadan or even you fasting during Ramadan. The problem is if you are doing so out of an attraction to the Muslim faith instead of your own desire to draw closer to God as you are called to within your own tradition (not theirs).

I’ll give you an example of what I would consider an entirely appropriate and wonderful “co-fast” among Muslims. In his book The Crescent Through the Eyes of the Cross, Dr. Nabeel Jabbour, a Syrian Protestant, writes about fasting together with Muslims in his workplace while living in Egypt. He did so, even though he didn’t have to, and it came to a point where he became very weak at work and his Muslim co-workers were confused and concerned for him. They asked him “Is this the (Coptic) Orthodox fast?”, and when he told them it wasn’t, that he was fasting out of love for them and as a witness for his faith, they were very impressed.

This is different, you’ll note, than fasting because he is attracted Islamic practice. He is a Christian, fasting with a solid understanding of his own faith and motivated by the ethics and principles of HIS OWN faith. When you fast along with Muslims, will you explain to them why you are doing it? About your own faith’s principles and committment to asceticism and love of and submission to God, and love for them as Muslims and desire that they come to know Christ? If you do that (and I know it’s a tall order), it will be a wonderful thing. If you fast because you are attracted to what your perceive as the piety of their faith, then this does nothing to strengthen YOUR OWN faith or bring Muslims to a greater understanding of it. Remember: You are a Christian. You fast out of a dedication to Christ, who is God, and who wants you to bring Muslims to Him in whatever way you can. 👍
what is your problem man. Of course it can. We share a lot of things together, I am not here to discuss our differences, I am here to honor their fast.
And your own fasting? What about that? You are not fasting in recognition of “Ramadan” as being a holy month according to YOUR religion, are you? I am a proponent of the idea that fasting ought to be a regular practice among all western Christians (myself most certainly included), but not to honor someone else’s fast.
I actually appreciated when you were ready to join me on the last week of Ramadan but now I guess you talk like those other close minded Catholics. Like I said, that’s your problem
I am still considering the idea. I met several great Muslims (and a few less than great, sure) when I lived in Oregon. I’m sure they would not be against me fasting while they fast, and if it brought questions from them as to why I am fasting (as it should, since I never hide my Christianity), then it would be all the better. As it is, I am no longer living there, but it might still be good to fast for the general intention of the conversion of Muslims to faith in the true Christ, and for my own spiritual development and relationship with God.

Thank you for pointing out my problem of close-mindedness. 😦
You´re going to compare Islamic fast (which they offer to God and God only) to how protestants discharge and disrespect our beloved Lord in the Most Holy and Adorable Eucharist?
Yes, I am, if it is all a matter of what you perceive their intention to be. Protestants would argue that their intention in engaging in a symbolic “Eucharist” is to worship God just as much as the Islamic fast during Ramadan. More so, in fact, as those Protestants who maintain any sort of eucharist-like ritual are doing so in rememberance of Christ, who they believe to be God (which Muslims do not believe), and in rememberance of His sacrifice on the Cross (which Muslims do not believe).
How dare you. The two can´t be argued. How could you possibly tell a Muslim you´re wrong for fasting for 30 days, now try to find reasons for telling a protestant why its wrong to think of the Eucharist only as symbolic. You´ll find MANY reasons.
Where did you find me saying that it is wrong that Muslims fast for 30 days? I don’t recall writing that. I think they’re wrong even if they fasted for 200 days. They are following the wrong faith. And of course there are many reasons why the Eucharist is not symbolic. My point in making the comparison is to emphasize the danger of being attracted to traditions outside of the Apostolic Christian faith by what you perceive as their piety.
Must I remind you John Paul II himself once encouraged Catholics to join the Muslims on the last day to fast so a unity of bunch of believers could sum up to offer a great fast on that special day for our Creator.
Okay. What’s the problem here? If I thought it was bad to fast along with Muslims, I wouldn’t be considering doing it myself. You are missing my point. The fast itself is not wrong. Turning away from solid Christian teaching about why we fast in order to embrace another religion’s idea of what it is to fast is what is wrong. That’s all.

consider yourself reported.:tsktsk:
What’s wrong with eating pork and drinking liquor, I’m not fasting, they are. If you don’t like pork and liquor, don’t take it out on me.

Report me, fine, I’ll explain the stupidity of your claim to the Mod. Did I say death to Islam or call them devils, no I just stated that while they are fasting I will be eating pork and drinking liquor, I’m a Catholic and can do so.

Tonight I’ll have pork chops with a nice bottle of Chianti, boo hoo hoo, I put what I’m going to eat for dinner while Muslims fast, wipe your tears Benjamin.

It is clear that we misunderstood each other. For that I am sorry. I really did think you were going to be like those other posters who do nothing else but bash Islam. Which is very inappropriate. But I agree with you for the most part. May Christ bless you my brother.

If I may add one thing, if you look at it, when Muslims fast during Ramadan, they do nothing wrong at all. But when protestants degrade Christ by saying the Eucharist is only a symbol, they are doing an awful thing even though they remain worshiping Him. That is why I said we can´t compare.

Anyhow, let us not shift too far from the topic and keep the subject at hand. I am appreciate for all those Christians who offer prayers for our dear Muslim brothers and Sisters.

To mock the fast of others is to fast from charity, and as the Apostle teaches, without charity you have nothing.

From the picture posted by the OP: “together we can conquer satin and the world”.

After that, we will conquer wool and silk as well!

Ha Ha Ha!

Boy…you’re just cracking yourself up today, huh FatTire?

I would rather conquer wool, personally. It’s too itchy.

I like the pic 🙂 It really shows Muslim’s devotion to Mary.
Really where is the Virgin Mary in the pic? Is it some optical illusion pic I have to stare at and slowly go back to have the Mother of God appear?

All I see is a Muslim girl wearing a Hijab, least she be punished by Allah.

I’m thankful for Ramadan because it’s a time out from the terrorism, best time to visit Israel. I’m not joking, a Jewish travel agent told me that, when I was planning my trip. I was planning to go before Ramadan stared, she insisted I go while Ramadan was occurring. Maybe her Jewish bias or maybe it’s a fact, who knows.

So by your flawed logic I have to fast like a Muslim when they fast? Seriously, I can’t eat pork and drink liquor because they are fasting? Stop with the stupidity, please!

Look I don’t believe what you said was worthy of a report but he is trying to do something good as I’m sure there are a lot of kind and caring Muslims and I think furthermore good Christians should unite with them to help bring morality back into the world. There is nothing wrong if we fast during Ramadan as fasting can be done anytime of the year. God bless Fat tire and have a good day.

p.s. Jokes are funny by the way.

I can’t imagine how other Muslims would react when they read these posts. They will be shocked to see that some Christians *are actually asking God to help the Muslims during Ramadan *. I’m speechless !!
but I will do one thing, I’ll will translate these prayers into Arabic and post them in a Muslim forum that I frequently visit. I can’t wait to see their reaction , I’m sure that will clear up a lot of misconceptions in their views toward Christians and the West.

Benjamin8o8, thanks for the effort and may God bless you and your family.
God’s Blessings to all and the Peace of Christ,

Keep up your strength and pray to God for His peace to all people.
Thank you.:angel1:

Don’t know if Ramadan has ended, but in honor of it, I am going to eat pork and drink liquor non-stop!
funny about that. you set to insult islam instead by saying you’ll eat pork your actually disobeying your own bible because the meat of swine is forbidden.

Not for Gentiles. The kashuroth were only for Jews.

In any case, the Moslems have no devotion to the REAL Mary, who is the ever-Virgin Mother of God.

One of Mohammed’s more obscene fantasies is that she will be his wife.

overall i am very happy at the christian responses on this thread. thank you all so much-it is gr8 support for someone like me who lives in a non-muslim society (my parents and friends and most of my relatives) thank you so much…jazakallah khair

Is this stated in one of their hadiths?

I’m going to be sick…!

ZAKI: Since you are such a Biblical scholar, surely you must know that camel meat is also forbidden according to the old law, as per Leviticus 11. Do Muslims eat camel? Why yes, I believe they do. Physician, heal thyself!

We do not follow the bible. You do. Therefore if the bible says you don’t eat either camel or pig then you eat neither? But the Quran mentions nothing against eating camel meat. I was replying to him saying how he will enjoy pork and I replied that it is forbidden in your own religion. 🙂
understood?

No. It is stated no-where. It is a hadith praising Mary (pbuh) and some christians how some how twisted it to mean that Mary (pbuh) was Muhammed (pbuh)'s fantasy.
