Does a discussion on complexity necessarily have to be rooted in evolution? If not then this topic may still be possible while respecting the parameters of the current ban.

Or perhaps instead we could discuss why, in the event of being taken down in the midst of strawberry laden fields and consequently discerning from a philosophical standpoint that nothing is real, it logically follows that avoidance of getting hung about is the ideal response.

Hypothesis: Woman, taken from the rib of Man, became the pinnacle of God’s creation. Nothing yet discovered by scientists as ‘complex’ & ‘tempting’ as Eve and her XX offspring. 😃

The argument is used by proponents of creationism and ID. That is why I am asking the moderators to pull it. I forgot there was a ban on the topic and do not wish to start trouble here because my make it up as I go along moral framework derived from the secular world where there are no objective truths on morals or dietary restrictions keep me from doing so.

The ban on evolution does not apply in the Water Cooler/Back Fence forum. You may want to repost there.

Assuming that the topic is still on, (we Catholics are a hopeful people 😉) what bothers me is the idea that life, which demands more than a single element to exist, just happened to form.

If we look at a single cell organism of the most basic kind, it does all the things that creatures as complex as humans do, in the basic necessities of living. It has genes that tell it when to eat and what, how to process that food, how to get rid of waste, how to move in its environment, how to reproduce itself in sufficient health and quantities to survive as a species. The idea that all those functions simply fell into place–somehow, is mind-boggling. Nor is there any proof that that is what happened. It’s not enough to reject a Creator, even if we cannot explain, other than by fiat, how he made life and living creatures. Really, in both cases it’s a matter of faith.

And being a good Catholic (at least attempting to be a good Catholic) I accept that God put into place all that was needed for life to develop. Just how he did that is what both scientists and theologians would love to know. Someday we may, but does it really matter? No one truly believe/disbelieves in God or scientism based on knowing when we cannot know and will probably never know. In light of that, what else does belief in God give us that scientism doesn’t and vice versa? For me, the case for trusting in God is greater for needs I know scientism cannot and will never meet, so I believe in God and leave science–true science to those qualified to speak about it.

Della,

I’m going to do this in the back fence. Maybe not today. I’m a bit upset with some recent events involving a scientist I once respected. I need some time to re-group my thoughts.

I’ll let you guys know when I get a new thread in the correct location.

In the meantime I’m not sure I can think about science today without getting upset. There is still time for him to openly address this and correct the damage he has done and I am hoping he will before my head explodes.

No problem. Take care of yourself and do what you need to do. You and your friend have my prayers. I hope all turns out well for all concerned. God bless!
