It’s summer not, and obviously it’s hot. How much would you show your body when you are wearing summer dress?

24/m/Canada
Short sleeves, shorts just above or below the knee.
That’s my usual attire.

Goody gumdrops, the annual bathing suit fight.

To save a bit of server space…

Modesty demands different things at different times and of different people.

I will wear Church clothes to Mass, work clothes to work, casual clothes to a cook out, formal gowns to a ball at the white house and a bathing suit to the lake.

You do not wear a bathing suit to Mass.

You dress in a way proper to what you are doing and where you are.

And we do not know if Mary would have worn a bathing suit because women did not swim for sport in first century Palestine.

Did I cover all the usual screeches on this one?

FABULOUS!!! (and I’ve been known to sport a bikini @ the lake/on the boat). 😛 Let the tomatoes fly!!

What if you’re just walking out randomly, what would you wear?

It is not yet summer here. It is unusually cold for May in MN. (What global warming…I am still having to bring my hanging baskets in for the night so they don’t freeze…)

My usual daily summer attire is a tank top or spaghetti top with shorts. Flip flops.

My mass attire is a dressier sleeveless top or blouse or short sleeve top with dress shorts or a skort. Flip flops (aka the thong sandal).

Women should always keep the sensibilities of men in mind when choosing how to dress. They should cover as much as possible, wear loose fitting clothing and preferably always have some form of head covering or hat in while in public. Women have a special duty in regards to subjugating the natural desire for self attention. This self attention not only harms the woman through the capital sin of vanity, but leads others to the capital sin of lust as well. That is a big responsibility on the shoulders of women. Therefore it is prudent, where the interest in leading others to God rather than oneself should be the goal, that women take every reasonable caution. The heat is not really an excuse, for one would be remiss to find Our Lady running around in short shorts and tank top and say its because its too hot!
Let’s not let summer become an excuse for indecency.

I am NOT advocating wearing immodest clothing at any time. But lobster, it sounds like you and the imams of the Middle East have much the same attitude in regard to women:

crescentlife.com/articles/social%20issues/invisible_society.htm

Women are believed to be endowed with a fatal sexual attraction. They are seen as sources of seduction who are responsible for man’s inability to resist them. However, because they are considered the morally and intellectually inferior sex, it is their sexuality that must be strictly controlled and regulated. In a society that relies on external rather than internal moral enforcement, it is believed that women must be hidden and separated from men so that the males are not overpowered by feminine sexual appeal. 3 Young females, in whose every soul lies a temptress, must be modestly dressed, which has evolved into the tradition of veiling.

I threw my burqa away a long time ago.

Besides, hats are HOT. Why on earth would I want to wear a hat??? If I cover as much as possible, it is also pretty hard to get that tan I like. Women have a special duty in regards to subjugating the natural desire for self attention. This self attention not only harms the woman through the capital sin of vanity, but leads others to the capital sin of lust as well. Look, it is not MY fault that men can’t control themselves. That is THEIR issue. I hardly think that me wearing a tank top and shorts in summer to keep comfortable and get tan should be stopped because YOU can’t control your own thoughts. That is a big responsibility on the shoulders of women. Nope. Disagree. That is YOUR issue. Stop passing the buck. It is time for men to take responsibility for their own weakenesses. Therefore it is prudent, where the interest in leading others to God rather than oneself should be the goal, that women take every reasonable caution. The heat is not really an excuse, for one would be remiss to find Our Lady running around in short shorts and tank top and say its because its too hot! Look at the fashion of the times.
Let’s not let summer become an excuse for indecency. A tank top and shorts are not indecent.
You want all women to wear burkas?

If it’s a hot day where I live, I will wear a tank top in the yard, or go shopping in a summer sundress with straps …maybe a tank top underneath and maybe not.
Though mind you - where I live it would be a treat to get that warm.

Have a cute skort that I will wear.

That about sums it up in my “about town” attire.

LOL.

I picture myself in a speedo…Moby Dick, the white whale in a speedo. :rotfl:

Actually, I spare the populace that sight. 😉

:eek::eek::eek:
Speedos ought to be outlawed. nasty. Not even attractive in ANY form!

I’ll go through all my attire w/ my preference/usual listed first…

Church: Sleeveless dresses (some below the knee others slightly above), sleeveless shirts (no spagetti straps), skirts/skorts (some below the knee others slightly above), and/or capris/pants. I usually pair sleeveless shirts w/ capris/pants/long skirts. I pair cap sleeves w/ the shorter skirts/skorts. Most of my sleeveless dresses are long, but the ones that aren’t generally have either almost cap sleeves (very broad shoulders) & a collar or a little cover-up jacket/shawl thing.

Town: Capris, sleeveless tops (most likely no spagetti straps), shorts (some 4 inches above knee, some knee length)

Work: Capris, sleeveless tops (no spagetti straps), pants, skirts/skorts (some below knee others slightly above), business suits (for court) - these are all covered by my lab-coat while I work, so sometimes it looks like I don’t have clothes on at all.

Vacation: about the same as town, but probably bathing suit added since I like to swim/go to the lakes

Yard: Shorts (any/all I have access to - my own & my husband’s), sleeveless tops (some spagetti straps w/ shelf bras), bathing suits (two piece boy shorts/halter top) for washing the car etc, jeans for riding the horse, occassionally I’ll wear just my sports bra w/ whatever pants depending on what I’m doing/who’s present.

House/leisure: Shorts, sleeveless tops (spagetti straps & shelf bras), undies (yep sometimes I prance around that way for my hubby &/or my own personal comfort), and au naturel!

As an act of kindness to my fellow man, I keep myself as concealed as possible, year-round…though in the summer I am not afraid to show off my nice legs.

I am, however, kept on standby in case of shark sightings at beaches, as the sight of me in a bathing suit will send swimmers running for shelter far faster than any mere verbal warning could ever do.

I know this might be a bit offensive. What’s a shelf bra? Does that cover your nipples? My friend is picking clothing for her daughter and she was a bit, um… outdated.

A shelf bra is a second layer of fabric that has a band of elastic that fits around the ribcage.

It does not give full coverage the way a padded bra does, it does not give support for large breasted women. They do come up and cover all of the breasts, including the nipples.

Clothing for the daughter should be age appropriate (a 7 year old, a 16 year old and a 24 year old wear different things). If your friend is “outdated”, suggest she find another mother who has a well groomed daughter and ask her to come along on a shopping trip.

I live in Florida. :curtsey: The heat here is *unbearable *in the summer, and you better believe that I am NOT going to be wearing anything to make me more miserable.

As a stay-at-home mom, my “Mommy uniform” is shorts, sandals, and either a tank top or a tee shirt. Tee shirt if I’m running to the store. No one wants to see me in a tank top… that’d be a horrific site. 😊 LOL

I am a believer in 1 pc bathing suits for myself. I prefer my girls to wear the tank-kinis. It’s a 2 pc bathing suit but it comes down a little longer and covers more. I don’t make my kids wear a “cover up” to and from the pool, but I do wear a cover up myself, sheerly out of mercy for anyone who might see me. LOL 😛

Mass~ Sundays we dress nicely. I don’t believe in wearing sleeveless or strapless in church. Or plunging necklines. That just seems *wrong *to wear, IMO. Not only am I in God’s house, but my goodness the priest has taken a vow of celibacy, and I doubt he wants an eyefull. Short sleeves and a “scoop” neck is fine, I think. And we tend to wear dresses below the knee. Weekday masses, however, we stick to either a simple dress with short sleeves, or capris, blouse, and sandals. Relatively cool, but not overly exposing. 😉

🙂

HA! You are funny!
Ha! So are you!

Out of concern for modesty.
If I cover as much as possible, it is also pretty hard to get that tan I like.
And that is, as I mentioned, a form of vanity.
Look, it is not MY fault that men can’t control themselves. That is THEIR issue.
That is rather selfish thing to say. We have a responsibility to help others get to heaven, not be concerned only with our selves. Jesus’ attitude certainly was different. Imagine if He decided not to give His life for us and said “it is THEIR issue, let them fend for themselves”. On the other hand, if you know someone is prone to sin, it is your responsibility to not present yourself as an occasion of sin to others.
I hardly think that me wearing a tank top and shorts in summer to keep comfortable and get tan should be stopped because YOU can’t control your own thoughts.
Sometimes the moral way is not easy, but is always necessary. The appeal for vanity obviously has a strong hold which many women find difficult to correct. More concern than this should be shown for ones brothers in Christ.
