I got to say. I’m sick of going to confession only to fall under the weight of the exact same sins. It’s a vicious cycle, one I can’t seem to break. The problem is not my firm resolve to not sin. I promise you when I walk into that confessional I have nothing but the most perfect desire to quit doing it…but Then I get in a slump, life throws me curve balls, and and temptation strikes me in a weakened state.

I’m over it. I literally had to leave mass last Sunday right after the liturgy of the word. I couldn’t do it, I couldn’t face God surrounded by good Catholic people who are able to hit their mark. Who are able to walk life without a grace destroying lifestyle that haunts them.

Pray for me, because even the thought of saying a genuine prayer being the person that I am makes me recoil in disgust. Why on earth world God listen to a sinful hypocritical man like myself :yukonjoe:

…who knows maybe it’s just Satan talking.

“O Jesus, King of Love, I put my trust in Thy loving mercy!”

Repeat this prayer throughout the day. You will grow in confidence.

Seek the intercession of Servant of God Yvonne-Aimee, to whom the above prayer was given by Our Lord. Servant of God Sr. Benigna Consolata will help you, too! Her biography is consoling and edifying to the utmost:

**Prayer to Obtain the Grace of Boundless Confidence **(Dictated by our Lord to Sr. Benigna Consolata Ferrero, d. 1916):
“My sweetest Jesus, God infinitely merciful, Most tender Father of souls, especially of the weakest, the most miserable, the most infirm, whom Thou bearest with singular tenderness in Thy divine arms, I come to beg of Thee through the love and the merits of Thy Sacred Heart, the grace to confide in Thee, the grace to confide more and more in Thy merciful goodness, the grace to repose securely for time and eternity in Thy divine and loving Arms.”

Pax!

Yup, sounds like Satan.

First, do you believe in the Mercy of God? He pours it out upon us, especially in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. He wipes you clean. Do you believe that God loves you? Truly loves you? If not, read Psalm 139, slowly and out loud. You cannot hide from His love, only reject it.

So what, you repeat your last confession because of habitual sins? He’s not set up the Sacrament so that you can stump the priest with new sins each week or month that you avail yourself of absolution. Goodness, I go to Confession every week and I write my sins out in a journal so that I can bring my list in with me. This helps me stay on point in my confession. Most weeks I could just flip back to previous confessions to make my examination of conscience because I repeat the same sins over and over again.

If you need to go to Confession more frequently, do that. But if you have gone to Confession and made an honest confession, do not let Satan tell you that you are not good enough to be at Mass, that you are not worthy to receive Him in Holy Communion. Everyone there prays “Lord, I am not worthy…”

You do not know the hearts, minds, and intimate lives of the other people at Mass so stop comparing yourself with them. Stop it, stop it, stop it. Most people who go to Mass and receive Communion haven’t darkened the door of a confessional in years. Don’t judge them for that or hold yourself above them because you have gone to Confession. But don’t judge yourself, either, or hold yourself below them because of how you feel.

Faith is not a feeling. You feel unworthy. You feel shame. But you have been washed clean by the Blood of the Lamb and have received absolution through the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Embrace His Mercy and hold on to knowing what Jesus promised, that the sins forgiven by the priest are forgiven in Heaven. Do Not let your feelings lead your faith life, do not listen to those whispers that you are not worthy. None of us is worthy but we are still all redeemed.

Be at peace.

I know exactly how you feel. That’s what Satan wants, to get you further from God. God is so Merciful. He is Mercy. Don’t get down on yourself. It’s possible to change habits with God’s help. He helped me with mine and continues to help me. I’m praying for you.

God bless You , Joe
I resemble your remark!
You are NOT alone and I am struggling with the same feelings right now
I hope to go back to confession this Saturday after an absence of 4+ months, yet I feel I am defiling God’s house by my very presence.
Please,God

People who believe that they are unforgivable are playing right into the prince of lies hands.
Remember Judas?
He could have been forgiven like the rest of us…but he took matters into his own hands because shame replaced TRUST.
When you are tempted…look at a picture of the Virgin Mary.
Stops most people from sin, cold. Every time. Imagine Mary at the foot of the Cross. Her Son tortured for all of mankind. Makes one think.
There’s a big difference between humility and self-loathing.
And tell your confessor your struggle very much. He’ll have advice for you.
He’s seen it many times before.

I go to confession week after week with the same sins. My priest tells me never to stop coming. There is no reason to feel unworthy to be at Mass and there is no reason to think anyone else there is more holy or worthy than you are.

In the Ordinariate we use this prayer before receiving communion which makes the fact that no one is worthy very clear. Read it, reflect on it, if you like it maybe say it to yourself before receiving
We do not presume to come to this thy Table, O merciful Lord, trusting in our own righteousness, but in thy manifold and great mercies. We are not worthy so much as to gather up the crumbs under thy Table. But thou art the same Lord, whose property is always to have mercy: Grant us therefore, gracious Lord, so to eat the flesh of thy dear Son Jesus Christ, and to drink his blood, that our sinful bodies may be made clean by his body, and our souls washed through his most precious blood, and that we may evermore dwell in him, and he in us. Amen.

Thanks for the encouragement guys. Went to confession today. Priest didn’t even seemed phased about them being the same ones preached last time. Seemed glad that I wanted to confess and was happy to help me out

Good for you! 🙂 See, it’s not that difficult - the devil and our overthinking things is what puts us in a state of fear and shame, like others have pointed out the devil wants to keep you going further away from God.

Also, a little tidbit of wisdom I heard somewhere, applies to many situations: Don’t compare your insides to other people’s outsides. Meaning, they may look great and you may feel lousy at the moment, but who knows what they’ve really got going on beneath the surface. And you, you have freedom to do something positive at any given moment. 👍
