Ah! It’s time to clean and de-clutter. It feels so good!! But I’m also tired and need to find more energy to finish these tasks.

Earlier this week, we rearranged some furniture, including our master bedroom. We removed a book shelf that had an odd assortment of books and gave an old dresser to one of our kids. The room looks much bigger with less furniture in there. Yesterday, we put on a different bedspread for the approching warmer weather–and now our bedroom looks practically new!

While I was moving that bookshelf from our bedroom, I sorted through it and re-organized some more book shelves too. Then there’s the closets and sorting the children’s clothing. With eight children, that’s a major chore here, but we did it! Several items were either stored or or given away.

I’ve done more than that, but there’s still lots more to do. I want to keep going, yet I need to rest. I’m tired. It seems that the more I do, the more I see that needs to be done.

**How is your spring cleaning? **

oh gardensWK, last year we moved. smack in the middle of february with 20 inches of snow on the ground we moved 20 miles up the highway. but before we got in the house, i scrubbed, painted and scrubbed again. it was epic.

so, we moved with:
five of the ten kids still at home.
17 years in the same house of clutter.
20plus years of all ten kids’ stuff collected.

i threw out SO much stuff then!!!

we moved into a bigger house. went from owning to renting. it’s SO MUCH EASIER for me to keep it simple/ neat/ uncluttered in this new house. i think renting as a LOT to do with it. it’s home. we’re comfortable. but i cant imagine we have seventeen years in this new place. somehow, i’m beginning to like the feeling of ‘travel light.’

anyway, spring cleaning is so small scale this year. i’m not complaining!

but you! you GO!!! what a grace to purge! what a grace to turn the tables from the stuff owning YOU, back to YOU owning the stuff you need.

happy spring cleaning!!!

Thinking about it, but it hasn’t started yet. I’d really like to get rid of 1/3 of what we have! Oldest is going away to college in the fall, so I know we’ll spend plenty of time this summer going through her things.

We have started to go through clothes closets since the weather got warm so fast. Books are always a huge task. What I really dread is tackling the mounds of papers and files in the “office”. I plan to schedule time over spring break to get a good dent in that and then keep going for an hour or two each weekend until it is done.

My list of house chores is hugely long, several of which we are going to need professional help for, so I need to start calling and getting estimates and scheduling. Not looking forward to it.

We have gotten rid of so much stuff! It is great! I can keep up with the cleaning better because there is less stuff/junk in the house.

We are going to be painting the whole first floor and our bedroom upstairs…plus, ripping apart our upstairs bathroom. When we built 12 years ago, by the time we got to that bathroom we were out of money and just plain tired so it got less then wonderful things in it. The shower is now leaking so badly we can’t use it! Can’t wait to rip the dumb thing out!

My biggest project is getting out in my flower bed and keeping it looking nice…last year it got let go a little too long and I was never able to catch up with it…a green thumb I do not have and with little helpers that pull and then ask if it’s a weed:rolleyes: it takes some work to keep it looking pretty.

Thanks for the encouragement, Monicatholic! 🙂 Your new home sounds clean and comfortable. Enjoy the light spring cleaning this year after all that hard work last year!

Planning to clean out the gadget drawer in the kitchen. 👍

But it’s too nice to stay inside any longer than that.

Oh my goodness, the spring cleaning that needs to be done around here…

My family is currently living in my parents’ house while we’re searching for the right house for us to purchase. So right now, we only have a small amount of our own things here. Most of the other stuff got weeded out when we decided what to put in the storage unit.

My mom is something of a pack rat. Her things are EVERYWHERE!!! (And they should be–it’s her house, after all.) But there are things that I left behind when I moved out 6 years ago and told her that I didn’t want anymore; and they’re still sitting exactly where I left them because she can’t bring herself to get rid of them. It’s been strange getting used to having all this “stuff” around again; my DH and I had made it a point to live with very few extras lying around. We were just saying that when we get into our own place it’s going to seem really empty by comparison.

I’m a couple weeks away from having our baby, so Spring Cleaning has had to take a backseat to other things this year. With any luck we’ll find our perfect home soon, and then the real cleaning will begin! There’s so much that has to be cleaned up before we can move into a new place!

When you’re eight or nine months pregnant, it’s called nesting. 😃

:yup: Yes, there’s that too, on top of housecleaning and de-cluttering. Gardening is fun, but it’s also hard work in the spring around here too.

Now I want to get off the computer and out of the house to go work in my gardens.
:flowers:

Yikes! I have so much to do. My 77year old mom broke her ankle in January, spent over a month in rehab, her accident seems to of triggered some kind of dimentia or Alzheimers,
Her house looks like it can be on Hoarders, only no dead cats or piles of diapers. Mostly ceiling high piles of books and a stockpile of food you would not believe. The house is falling apart:(. I feel like I need to get her out of her house first. Sigh it is a daunting task!

Gosh, sorry for the whiny post! Still processing everything…I envy you job well done Gardens’

:console: That’s okay, petitfleur. You have a huge task ahead, both physically and emotionally! Praying for your mom and you. :gopray:

Eeeek! It’s time to tackle my closet!

I started last night. Fortunately, my husband helped me escape before I buried myself alive. :bigyikes:

Since I’d gotten rid of some things in one storage area, I’m moving some things that I’d stored in my closet to a different area of the house. But do I really want these items? I’m a sentimental person, and I hold onto things for sentimental reasons. I have old programs from my children’s events—and even some old programs that my mother and father saved from my childhood events! My closet holds a couple of boxes with some old stuff from my parents and relatives that most people tossed out fifty plus years ago! There are files and cards from my wedding, and even some old letters dh and I wrote to each other when we were dating back in the 80’s! There are a few old clothes there too, like my wedding dress, prom dress, my high school uniform and even an old shirt of my dad’s and a couple dresses of my mom’s, in addition to baptism gowns and first communion clothing. It’s kept in a relatively small space.

My closet is like a tiny living history museum devoted to my family, and I am the museum’s curator. It’s time to sort through the museum’s collection and move it to a different location. I need to put my family’s past in my basement or elsewhere, and re-claim my closet to for the present. I dread doing this…but it’s time to get to work.

I’m going for 40 Bags in 40 Days for Lent. We’ve trashed/given away about 33 bags so far. I took TEN out of my 7 year-old’s room!!! My teen is giving stuff away as well.

Laugh, but I watch “Hoarders” for motivation. After watching that (and knowing I have some hoarding tendancies!) I lose the desire to keep so much stuff. 😉

I have been awesome this year at getting rid of SO much stuff I NEVER thought I would part with!

I’ve been trying to tackle some long-neglected cleaning tasks:
  1. Cleaning the Venetian blinds (use bleach or detergent and agitate in the bathtub)
  2. Cleaning the doors (people touch them and dirt starts to build up)
  3. Scrubbing kitchen walls (grease slowly accumulates)
  4. Cleaning windowsills (dirt builds up here)
  5. Cleaning lamp glass (dead bugs pile up)
  6. Cleaning the radiators (which are magnets for dirt, for some reason)

I did clean out my little guy’s room, and had the older kids get rid of the junk in their rooms. There is still more to be done. I need to tackle the bookshelves…I have a really hard time getting rid of books. I also have two really bad “hotspots” one rather large storage closet where everyone puts their junk they don’t know what to do with and a hidden little counter in my kitchen.
