I came here a few years ago because my son was dating a nice Catholic girl (who is now my Daughter in law) and told me he “Might become Catholic”.

I initially wanted to talk with Catholics instead of reading/watching Anti-Catholic Apologist. I want to converse with Catholics as the only Catholic family I know personally is the one my son married into.

I want to thank all of you for answering my questions and debating (mostly) in a kind and generous way. If I’ve offended any of you I apologize. I’ve tried to give my opinion/reasoning in a non-confrontational way, but I know I failed in doing that several times.

Overall, my experience here has been positive and I’m sad to see the forum go away.

My each of us dwell in God’s infinite grace and live a life of Faith that is pleasing to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Blessings to you all.

If I may say so, Lanman87, you always were articulate and respectful in your posts and you explained your views in a very understandable way. You brought up some very good subjects, and many of your questions were ones I had, as well.

It may be too personal to ask, but as a fellow non-Catholic Christian I am curious how your views of Catholicism and/or Catholics changed from the time you arrived until now?

I’m not sure how to answer that question. I believe many Catholics are great Christian people who love Jesus and have a deep and abiding faith. I believe the same thing about Presbyterians, Baptist, Methodist, Assembly of God, and so on. Being on this board did nothing to change my opinion about that.

I’ve read so many Catholic apologist that I can can give the Catholic response to Protestant/Non-Catholic Christianity better than most Catholics. (not those on this board but those who aren’t into apologetics). I have also delved deeper into the reformers and great Reformed Theologians to see how they came up with what they taught. Jonathan Edwards has become a favorite of mine and I really have come to appreciate the Puritan expressions of faith. I got myself a copy of the “Valley of Vision” compilation of Puritan prayers and devotions recently and have really enjoyed it.

I got deep into history and didn’t become Catholic so that expression doesn’t hold much water for me.

At any rate, this board served its purpose for me. I’m sad to see it go.

Yeah, I agree with your thought. Because I too believe many Catholics are great Christian people.

I am happy to hear this. In this forum, I’m also getting huge knowledge about the catholic religion. In the same way, you also benefit from this forum.

Best wishes for your Son’s future life!!!

You never know how long it takes for someone to become Catholic. It took me 20 years and as you, I didn’t know any Catholics apart from one person. In my case, this person was a Catholic priest but newly arrived so we didn’t have a common language we could converse in. Like you, I studied myself into the Church and know the faith a whole lot better than most cradle Catholics. This is due to me learning as as adult and most cradle Catholics haven’t received or thought about the faith as adults.

What I have liked about this Forum is that people are from several different countries and Christian communities as that adds a nice “flavour” to how the faith is expressed and lived.

I will miss coming on and browsing the threads to find some interesting reading material. There are some friendly folks on here that I will miss conversing with. It has been a good year on here.

I have also enjoyed this forum as a non-Catholic Christian. I am a pastor of an Evangelical Church in England, this forum has taught me the importance of tradition in the faith and some of the limitations of Sola Scriptura. I love the Catholic Church, and wish that the reformers had suceeded in reforming the Church away from the worst of the Medieval abuses rather than creating a schism, which needs to be healed and has caused immense damage to the Gospel.

As a Catholic, I benefitted greatly from reading the Non Catholic forum within CAF. If I could change anti I would have tried harder to understand some posters i disagreed with before making some of my posts.

Oh well…
I was blessed by my Christian brothers and sisters here.

I know that for scrupulosity issues, the Scrupe Group, now on google, has a Lutheran perspective but is very excellent.

You’re A-Ok in my book, @Lenten_ashes.

You were patient with me and explained things in a way that made sense to me as a Protestant. You were non-judgmental and acknowledged us non-Catholic Christians as brothers in Christ, which made me more receptive to the Catholic message instead of defensive. Your approach was invitational, not condescending, which I appreciated.

If I ever convert to Catholicism some day, you will have paved the way through your example. 👍

I have been missing you here Lenten_ashes, I actually looked you up specifically the other day but did not follow through with a pm.

I know I got under your skin some…it’s a trait that I wish to relinquish. Genuinely sorry!

I echo @Tommy999 sentiments above. God Bless!
