Hello everyone!

I have a recent interest in the role that women are supposed to play in this world. My perspective is (sadly) based solely on the feminist perspective that men have no interest other than subduing women into their doing their every bidding. Now that I know that this world view is incorrect, I now do not know what the correct world view actually is. Pope John Paul had written something on the importance and role of women in the world, I know. What I don’t know is the name of that encyclical (? article?) If somebody could tell me the name of it and how to get it, that would be great. Thanks so much!

 I don’t believe that the true feminist perspective says that about men. About some men, undoubtedly, but certainly not about all men.

Anyway, this is probably the one you’re looking for (“Mulieris Dignitatem”, or “On the Dignity and Vocation of Women”.

Hey! Thanks a whole lot. What I said about feminism was iced with sarcasm, you could say. The feminist of today may be more akin to my description, but never will I disregard the efforts of women like Susan B. Anthony and female athletes like Jackie Joyner Kersee, Mary Lou Retton, Sascha ? (the skater) female business owners, inventors, scientists, doctors, and so on. To me, these are the REAL feminists - they don’t let society or their gender limit them. Feminism today is so corrupted by pro-choice morons that it’s hard not to be biased. Thanks for the info, though. I’ll read it when I get a chance!

Yes, Mulieris Dignitatem is what you are looking for. You might also want to check out John Paul II’s “Theology of the Body.” There’s a lot in there about the human person, men, women, and the relationship between men and women.

Also, a while back I collected what Church documents I could find relating to women and put them on my website:

Catechesis on Women

It’s far from a comprehensive list. It’s primarily a list of the Pope’s Wednesday audiences on women with a few other related documents. I’m sure there is more out there. I’m trying to keep the site updated, but it doesn’t happen as often as I’d like.
