Okay, so my parents made me go to Catholic church for like, the first three years of my life. But I know hardly anything about it. And I always says that I want to know everything–this includes every religion. As I’ve yet to meet a Satanist(and since they are so secretive) I want yalls view of religion. Starting off with the whole Catholic/Protestant thing. What the heckama? Why did yall split up in the first place? My history teacher skimmed over it but I want a more in-depth answer, puh-leez.

First off, Satanists aren’t all that secretive, we’ve got one or who Theistic Satanists and a couple of LeVeyan Satanists on the board, though how much they would share here I don’t know, we also have one very very knowledgeable former Satanist here too.

As for your question about why the Catholic Church and the Protestant Churches separated, firstly it was not a mutual agreement, the Protestants broke away from the Catholic Church. This was for various reasons, from Martin Luther wanting to reform the Church (i.e make it better, not desert it, though that is what eventually happened), to Henry VIII deciding he could divorce his wives much more easily if he was the head of his own Church.

This is massively oversimplified and there are many more knowledgeable posters arond who I’m sure will be about to help you soon enough.

Satanists aren’t too secretive; their religious information is easy to find online. But it can be a bit scary at times.

As for the split of Catholics and Protestants, it was a heresy that turned into a schism. Protestantism was the general heresy, and many Catholics, unfortunately, fell for it and left the Church. The Church called them heretics and schismatics, but now we call Protestants our seperated brethern, because they are not willingly following a heresy or schism as they once were when Protestantism broke out; rather, they willingly follow the Lord.

But I don’t know too much about Church history. I do, however, know of a few e-books that can help:

For the whole Catholic vs Protestant thing, they split for different reasons. It depends on the branch you’re looking at. Around the 1500’s, this priest by the man of Martin Luther had a few problems with the Chuch. They were practicing something called selling indulgences, which was bascially people paid to have a bishop sign a piece of paper that said their sins were forgiven. He tacked a list of 97 complaints on the Chuch door, and he was kicked out of the Chuch. He pretty much started this whole protestant reformation. I also know that the Church of England, or the Episcipols were formed when King Henry the eighth got mad at the Pope for not letting him divorce his wife. He broke apart for the Church. It really just depends.

The issues in the Proestant reformation are several and somewhat complicated. From the religious veiwpoint much of it revolved around practices in the Catholic Church at the time. (Catholic being The only “Christian” Church in western Europe at the time). The “Reformers” like Martin Luther saw, what they percieved as, bad practices and tried to change them. Unfortunately Martin Luther, who was an ordained priest, allowed pride to overcome his vow of obedience and was excommunicated from the church. He didn’t take “no” for an answer and thus began the “reformation”.
It would have remained a primarily theological and religious issue except for the politics of the time. Various princes and other rulers basically sympathized with one side or the other and saw chances to raid and pillage those on the other side of the issue. Thus grew up many wars and unrightious acts committed by people on both sides of the issue. By the time things had settled donw some there was so much animosity between the various factions that little could be done to reconsile them.
Finally, the Protestant sects began slitting among themselves almost immediately and this further complicated any efforts at reconciliation.

Once again this is an oversimplified explanation of a hight complex question. I’m sure you can find some good articles here on site that would help you. Then you can ask more specific questions.
