First off Ben (there’s only one “Big Ben” and he wears blackngold :))… having someone end a relationship when you least expect it is always painful. My sympathy goes out to you in that regard.
She actually had a philosophy that she lived by that still comforts me: There are thousands upon thousands of religions, but each religion is simply a different road to the same glorious mountain top.

I believe that and i hope that one were both finally in the Kingdom that i can be with her, maybe not physically but spiritually
Do you really believe that? Honestly?

I think it’s a “nice” “poetic” and “romantic” sentiment, like the kind you’d find in a greeting card, but is this really something you “believe”?:confused::confused:

You men have it hard. You are the ones Christ charged with being the spiritual leaders within the family. That means you lead your wife and children correctly in the faith, and there is only one true way to that “glorious mountain top” and that is through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. You have to be strong in that conviction in order to lead Ben, and please don’t take this wrong, but maybe you’re just not ready for that if you went along with her saying and beliefs? You must lead Ben, not be lead incorrectly.

Maybe this happened for that reason? You have to believe that God will bring good out of bad. There is someone He has in mind for you according to His will for your life. Maybe this is a necessary heartache you must endure in order to discover your true faith, become that true spiritual leader, and be able to truly identify the woman God has in store for you. Don’t lean unto your own understanding in this (Proverbs 3:5 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding).

Have FAITH in your Lord Ben!!!

And remember this: Faith is NOT belief without proof, it is TRUST without reservations.

Maybe He’s waiting for you to completely trust Him before he shows you what HE has in store for you?

BTW…
**Why is it that God gets blamed for everything. Do you think that God meddles in all aspects of our lives like that? That he somehow has us all on a chess board and moves us and our circumstances like pieces on a game board? Things happen in our lives because they happen, sometimes as results of our bad choices, sometimes because of others bad choices. God gave us FREE WILL and He wants us to be free to choose our paths. If you go to church as if you were attending a circus and expecting for the show to be a spectacle that makes you jump in your seat or just to be inspired, you don’t belong in church. We go to the house of God to worship and adore Him, to spend time with Him, not to see what He is serving for dinner or if He is a good party host. As a Catholic I believe my Lord is PRESENT AND ALIVE in the tabernacle. When I step inside the church, I am stepping on HOLY GROUND. If you Big Ben knew the Lord personally as you should, you would believe in eternal happiness and you would not be so sour. You would not have to go to church to be inspired and the loss of a girlfriend would not be the end of the world. **
**I really like this post! ** 👍👍
Do you know how HARD it is for a woman to find a good man?
**AMEN SISTER! ** With porn so prevalent out there now, it’s even harder than it ever was!

She didn’t love him enough to risk losing her mother and father and tribe, to forsake all others.
Again a very naive statement proving you don’t fully and properly understand the situation.
Her ethnic background is irrelevant because many women have married “outside” their
group because they loved the man…these things tend to work out
Another naive statement.
This woman lives in America, not the Mid East, your point would be valid IF she lived in the Mid East but I haven’t read lately about Native Americans killing off their kids because they married the wrong person, if you know of any please let me know, I’m all ears and eyes.
My point is entirely valid because the girl was promised to the chieftan’s son and had she run away with Ben there would have been consequences so again your grasp of the situation is questionable at best. You have a very simplistic view of this matter which you are allowed to have but I am telling you it doesn’t work the way you think it should.
Yes, it’s hard for a man to find a good woman but probably worth the effort.
Not an opinion I share but most people would agree with you.
My guess that he has greater base to choose from than she does, but I could be wrong.
Interesting observation…

white American who married a Buddhist Japanese woman and they worked it out.
As soon as the babies started coming her parents forgave her and wanted in on her life.
Now that I think of it, it wasn’t just love, it was trust that he would take care of her as well…

Silly me–I thought Big Ben was a clock overlooking the Thames River…ah well… 😉

In any case, Big Ben is one of my fave QB’s in the league…who just happens to be playing for my co-favorite team. Being in Chi-Town I love Da Bearz but the Steelers are right there too 👍

That’s hilarious because being in Da Burgh, I love the Steelers and the Bears are my second favorite. LOL! 👍

Now back to your regularly scheduled thread! :tiphat:

How about that? That is funny 👍 Now if we could just bring another Lombardi Trophy to the Windy City…

If you pray to God about your sorrows, and ask that He show Himself to you, He will. It is an interior thing, not something you “get” by going to church, as nice as that is.

You will get consolation from Him, and who knows, if you ask Him, He may make a way to bring her to you. (It would happen naturally, for instance, this chief goes off and marries someone else). If not, He has something better in mind for you, and, you would not have been as happy as you think you would have. He has our greatest good and happiness in mind and knows what He’s doing. We, on the other hand, are prone to making dumb mistakes.

Such things can only come through sincere prayer. And, asking the Blessed Mother, or the Little Flower can’t hurt, either. I’ve never known the Blessed Mother not to respond swiftly and leaving no question about what’s happening. The Lord can be tougher on us than she is.

Try me on this, and ask for her help. Keep in mind, though, you need to have the purest of intentions, not an attitude of gimme what I want, or else. I don’t think God likes that attitude.

I’ve always admired the spirituality of the Native people such as your beloved. I don’t think God makes light of anyone’s love the way people sometimes do. I empathize with your sense of loss and the feeling that you have lost faith. Remember that it is a feeling, not necessarily reality. My husband was killed a year and a half ago. We were very blessed to have a union of such spiritual and emotional depth, I can hardly draw a breath without pain, even all these months later. Loss is loss, whether through death or here in life due to circumstances that neither you nor your beloved could change. I still feel the loss of faith you mention. But I continue to attend church and I try to conduct myself as a follower of Jesus. I pray, too, even though it feels as if No One is there. That’s the key word: “feels” not “is.” I am slowly making my way to the Light again although, as you did, I asked why such a love was brought into my life only to be snatched away far too soon. God bless you on your journey.

. I just cant believe in a God who promises eternal happiness when the one woman that i would be happy to spend all eternity with has been torn from me. i want to believe, i just cant anymore
God loves everyone and God does promise eternal happiness. God also would never put anyone through anything they can’t handle. Did you ever think that, you marrying her wasn’t part of Gods plan? Don’t blame God, please don’t. He has something greater and more beautiful planned out for you. Just wait and pray. Maybe this will help you reach out to him and know His mercy… Good Luck!!

P.S
Everyone has their own cross to carry.

Big Ben,

I agree especially with autumn nights. God does know what is best for us far more than we do for ourselves. So often we think that the purpose in life is to find the one, fallible human person we’re meant to love for our whole lives and that’s it (or at least we’re so focussed on it that we don’t or can’t see beyond it), but the person we’re meant to be chasing is God. God willing, He’ll give us a beloved who helps lead us closer and closer to Him everyday (which is what each spouse is called to do in marriage), but if not that calling is still there. Perhaps this heart-wrenching breakup is precisely what you needed to lead you to reconsider your faith so that you could eventually fall more deeply in love with the Triune God. Take this oporunity, now that you have more time to yourself, to go to Mass more, to go to the renewing Sacrament of Reconciliation more, and to seek all the Truth that the Catholic Church has to offer. Along the way you might find a lovely Catholic woman to share the journey with, but either way you will find a loving Saviour whose deepest desire is to lead you home to the eternal happiness of a heavenly life with Him.

Sincerely, and prayerfully,

Hi Ben,
Speaking of “Star Trek” there’s a quote to contemplate here
“Having is not always as good as wanting. It is seldom logical but, is often true>”
I have often said that sex is one of God’s best practical jokes because it gets you in so much trouble and can cause so much pain. God did give you the gift of loving that woman for a time and for that you should be greatful. There are people who nobody loves them their entire life. I know it hurts now. Also maybe you’re the lucky one, maybe your beautiful princess will turn into a grumpy old squaw after marriage. I’m a quarter Lakota and can tell you we’re a moody people at times and Lakota women can be real stuck up. If you’re mad at God you can yell at him ,he can take it, or better yet look to Our Lady of sorrows she watched her son, the person she loved most in the world be murdered before her eyes but, didn’t give up hope. She knew God would get her through and that there would be “joy in the morning.” also the pain of beakup before marriage is much less than that of after marriage ending up in divorce. rejoice you’ve been saved that pain bro.

Jezu Ufam Tobie-Jesus I trust in You.-Motto on the Dvine Mercy Icon

Sorry for taking so long to add my second pair of pennies…

The quote is actually quite apropriate. It was from an episode where Spock was supposed to mate this woman he’d been betrothed to for years. When he got back to Vulcan for the ceremony, he learned that she’d fallen in love with another man and wanted to break the engagement. Although he allowed her to break the engagement, he left the pair with the final thought that scottywolf777 mentioned: “Having is not so pleasing a thing as wanting; it is not logical, but it is often true.”

In essence, Spock is warning the people who were essentially in the position you suddenly found yourself in, that, while longing to be together is a tantalizing prospect and brings with it a lot of hope and excitement, sometimes actually getting what you want is a huge disappointment. Although it’s not exactly the same thing you experienced (because you and your beloved didn’t realize that she wasn’t free to love you) it is a very valuable life lesson, and scottywolf777 is right; you might’ve ended up much less happy than you expect you would’ve been if you’d been able to marry her. After all, marriages between two people of different faiths are often the very hardest marriages people can ever find themselves in. It may have seemed plausible at the time, but who knows how much strain attempting to live out the two very different traditions (especially once kids came along) would have put on the marriage.

When you think about it, it’s really a very common theme in prayer. So often we know what we want, but God knows that actually getting it won’t make us happy and would probably even make us more miserable, or be detrimental to our spiritual life. So, we pray for it, and He gives us something different, something we never expected and never even thought we wanted. But in the end, it turns out far better than we could’ve ever imagined. Unfortunately, it usually takes a long time to get the “in the end…”
