A decade ago i read a Jack Chick track which accuses the catholic church of covering up for sexually abused nuns. Having their babies aborted and buried under a catacomb. It was a shocking allegation which was plausible, especially with the RC’s notorious past. Jack Chick also made a lot of fantastic allegation against the RC, like the idea that it was directly responsible for the creation of Islam. All together that kinda ruins Chick’s credibility. But the recent factual discovery that the RC covered-up sex abuse by pedophilic priests. And this report:

*’‘We think the fact that in 23 countries, religious women are being exploited and raped by priests is an important international issue,’’ said Frances Kissling, the president of Catholics for a Free Choice and an organizer of the rally.

The Vatican publicly acknowledged the problem of sexual abuse against nuns in March when confidential reports, compiled by senior members of religious orders for women, appeared in the news media. *
Yvonne Maes, a former nun from Canada who spoke at the event, said that she had been raped by her supervisor in April 1985 during a religious retreat in Durban, South Africa. At the time she had been a nun for 24 years. She said that her superiors told her to keep quiet about the assault. Although Ms. Maes said her attacker admitted privately to her what he had done, it was 10 years before he was forced to answer charges before a church jury in England. Though the jury upheld her accusation, the man was never punished and continues to work as a priest in England*.

certainly such a problem isnt new. im sure it stretch way back for hundreds of years. the sex abuse and cover-ups in the clergy.

does this mean that jack chick isnt all nonsense? 🤷

how is it debunked?
Finally, in the authoritative work by Penn State professor Philip Jenkins, Pedophiles and Priests, it was determined that between …2 and 1.7 percent of priests are pedophiles. The figure among the Protestant clergy ranges between 2 and 3 percent

CONCLUSION
Indeed, it shows that family members are the most likely to sexually molest a child. It also shows that the incidence of the sexual abuse of a minor is slightly higher among the Protestant clergy than among the Catholic clergy, and that it is significantly higher among public school teachers than among ministers and priests.

CATHOLIC CHURCH ADVISED TO SUE ‘SEX-EXPERTS’ WHO COUNSELLED PEDOPHILE PRIESTS
NEW YORK (NY)
Life Site

NEW YORK, January 14, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Dr. Judith Reisman, Ph. D., the researcher who uncovered the fraud underpinning the field of sexology created by Dr. Alfred Kinsey, has advised the Catholic Church to sue the so-called sex “experts” who advised the Bishops and allegedly “treated” sex abuser priests. An article by the Catholic Citizens of Illinois and The Wanderer Press points out that Reisman believes that the ‘treatments’ given to predator priests in Kinsey-inspired therapy sessions were so grossly ineffective, that the Catholic Church and the victims of clerical sexual abuse have a legal claim against these sex clinics for medical malpractice.

Baptist Churches More Vulnerable to Clergy Sex Abuse, Experts Say
The increased instances of sex-abuse stories in the news may not necessarily mean it’s happening more than in prior decades. It often means people are simply talking about it more openly, according to some experts. And victims have encouraged others to come forward with their own stories of abuse.

This thread is nothing more than more anti-Catholic, pick on the Catholic faith sort of thing. This thread should at least be deleted because it doesn’t dignify a response from anyone.

No lets leave this thread on for a while to show how ridiculous these allegations really are. I love how the original poster trie to seem so thoughtful and caring. Like he Really did not want to belive these allegations…Please its so obvious that he’s antiCatholic:dts: But its Fine our Lord said the world would revile us for his sake, I take comfort in the word’s hatred it tells me we must be doing something right. 👍

Celibacy of the Clergy
Speaking, for the moment, only of Western Christendom, the candidates for orders are solemnly warned by the bishop at the beginning of the ceremony regarding the gravity of the obligation which they are incurring. He tells them:

You ought anxiously to consider again and again what sort of a burden this is which you are taking upon you of your own accord. Up to this you are free. You may still, if you choose, turn to the aims and desires of the world (licet vobis pro artitrio ad caecularia vota transire). But if you receive this order (of the subdiaconate) it will no longer be lawful to turn back from your purpose. You will be required to continue in the service of God, and with His assistance to observe chastity and to be bound for ever in the ministrations of the Altar, to serve who is to reign.

By stepping forward despite this warning, when invited to do so, and by co-operating in the rest of the ordination service, the candidate is understood to bind himself equivalently by a vow of chastity. He is henceforth unable to contract a valid marriage, and any serious transgression in the matter of this vow is not only a grievous sin in itself but incurs the additional guilt of sacrilege.

There is not any evidence there. It is a protest rally and the Times were just regurgitating what the protestors were saying. There was one lady who was said to have a jury upholding her story, but no evidence of that, or even enough details to show that the “reporter” did any more that had a computer to one of the protestors to write the article. It would hardly be the first time the NYT cheated or fabricated news.

On the other hand, I would be surprised if some nun somewhere was not abused by one of the hundreds of thousands of priests. So what?

I have known people who were banned from this site for reasons that don’t even equate with this thread. Why is Agnotheist still here?

The fact that Jack Chick is a complete “nut-case”…and anyone that buys into his particular vitriolic hyperbole and hate-mongering is merely doing service to Satan is a given.

Beyond that…here are a few salient problems with the referenced article in the NY Times…

"‘We think the fact that in 23 countries, religious women are being exploited and raped by priests is an important international issue,’’ said Frances Kissling, the president of Catholics for a Free Choice and an organizer of the rally.

The “key words” are “WE THINK”…that indicates that a dire lack of “fact” being present…

Further…

After reading some of the background on Yvonne Maes… it would seem that there are some gray areas…some of which may be “speculative”…and in my mind make me wonder exactly how much truth there is in the issue. Articles like the following cause me to wonder about “veracity” issues…

ted.examiner.ie/archives/2001/march/31/current/ipage_9.htm

Now, keep in mind that I am not making light of the issue…but people are human, and they make mistakes and sin. No man or woman is perfect…and while is not a justification for any person’s actions…its reality. There are people of all faiths that have done foul and evil things…but I very much doubt that any established Church endorses or embraces wrongdoings. Its individuals doing the wrong, and the fault is laid at their feet, and it is they who will have to face God’s wrath when they are judged in the end.

Constant harping and finger-pointing at persons in the Catholic Church does absolutely no good…for anyone, because at best it arouses the ire of others who can and will dredge up all of the equal or more heinous acts committed by others of other faiths.

One must also take with a grain of salt…anything printed or spoken by today’s “media”. Never before has there been media outlets so slanted and manipulated by special interest groups. The NY Times is no exception.

Agnos,
These children were sent to the Phillipenes and offered up to pagan gods in the hopes that no agnostics would come from there. If it did not work, there were not enough babies, so it must be a myth

😛 😛 😛 😛 😛 😛 😛

This was a joke post. Do not attack the poster for it.

What Jack chick truly believes:
That the Catholic church keeps the names of every “Protestant church” member in the world in a big computer in the vatican for future persecutions.

That Catholic leaders manipulated the Arabian Tribesman Mohammed into creating the religion of Islam to use as a weapon against the Jews and to conquer Jerusalem for the pope.

The Jesuits instigated the American Civil War supporting the Confederate and arranged the assasination of Abraham Lincoln.

Yea…he’s normal alright…:whacky:
