What do people make of this? Does God really have wrath that he unleashes on people? What if you pick the wrong religion when you’re born? I read his comic about the devout Catholic man being sent to hell because he followed the church rather than God and Jesus. What am I supposed to make of this? How am I supposed to know what’s right? What if God is showing me the right thing but I suspect it’s the devil trying to trick me? I’m so scared of hell and being separated from God.

Well, I can’t think of a nice thing to say about Jack Chick, so I won’t say anything. 🙂

Seems like Jack Chick’s propaganda plays alot on fear, which is not of God. It’s a technique.

I don’t know that much about him really and don’t want to know.

If you’re not a Catholic, you should begin by learning about the Faith. Then, go from there. Start with the Gospels Matthew, Mark, Luke , and John. And throw the Jack Chick tracts in the garbage.

The Catholic Church is the Church that Jesus founded, and the Holy Spirit has always guided it through 2000 years of history. If you want truth, look to the Catholic Church.

Jack Chick was right in stating that people who are living bad lives need to find Jesus.

He was wrong about claiming that the Catholic Church is bad and that you won’t find Jesus through the Catholic Church, and suggesting that all Catholics go to Hell just for being Catholic. This is just old-fashioned American anti-Catholic propaganda. Those of us over a certain age, or from certain parts of the USA where Catholics weren’t historically well regarded, have seen this sort of thing many times, and we just ignore it. When it comes to matters of faith, am I going to believe the Church that Christ himself established, or am I going to believe some random guy who draws cartoons? I think the answer is quite clear. Moreover, if you truly love Jesus and trust in him and try to do what He would do, you shouldn’t have to worry about Hell…or random cartoonists.

Jack Chick is now deceased and I’m sure has been shown the error of his thinking by the Almighty. I hope he went to Heaven anyway because his comics, though very anti-Catholic, may have helped someone out there turn from sin and reach out to Jesus, even if they didn’t reach out through the Catholic Church. I put him on my plenary indulgence list.

You can trust that the Church Christ founded is trustworthy, and provides the only safe path to salvation. You can trust this because Christ is trustworthy.

As he tries to separate people from Christ’s Church, it is Jack Chick who is the agent of the devil here.

If you follow the Church - you are following God. Pay no mind to Jack Chick. His faith was founded by man, whereas our faith was founded by God.

I’ve read a number of them since they are posted on a website by Chick Publications now. I also found a few over the years in public places, and my buddy collects them. While I wouldn’t recommend that anyone read them who is prone to doubt about Catholicism, I’ve never been the type to doubt.

While they often do contain anti-Catholic views and are definitely “fire and brimstone”, some of them seem like they could actually help people. There’s one called “Holy Joe” about a soldier who is constantly praying and trying to do good works and bring his fellow soldiers to Jesus. He gets laughed at and abused and finally his sergeant sends him on a dangerous mission hoping to get rid of him. Joe goes on the mission and promptly gets killed. The sergeant and another soldier who rejected Joe’s attempts to bring him to the Lord find Joe’s body. The sergeant is overcome with guilt and remorse and asks Jesus to help him because he’s a bad sinner. Right then the sergeant and other soldier are killed. They are judged and the sergeant, because he reached out to Jesus, is saved and the other guy who rejected Jesus is thrown into hell.

Hokey, yes, but this is the sort of simple message that could possibly get through to someone.

Why are you paying attention to anything from Jack Chick? Total waste of time.

Also, to give Chick his due, he apparently was sincerely trying to win people to Christ as he understood him. Don’t get me wrong, I think Chick was as crazy as a rat in a coffee can and as credulous as someone on roofies, but at least his heart was apparently in the right place. Presumably God took that into account when he met Jack.

Jimmy Akin bumped into him somewhere and wrote a little article about it. It’s worth a read of you’ve come across his…materials before.

Give me a moment, I’m just waking up and getting my first courses of Vitamins N and C (nicotine and caffeine, respectively). I believe I read on CA, but I think it originally came from Jimmy’s site.

And are then damned for want of absolution.

Giving people false confidence has all sorts of problems.

I don’t believe a truly repentant non-Catholic would be automatically “damned for want of absolution”. Guess we will find out when we die.

I don’t remember who said it, but I remember hearing/reading somewhere that, if you had the list of everyone who is in Heaven right now, you’d be scandalized by at least one name.

If they commit a mortal sin and don’t receive absolution or have perfect contrition, they will be damned. That is Catholic teaching.
