Is it possible Old Scholar may be Jack himself? 😃

IMO, no.

  1. His self-description in his profile is against this, whereas Jack by contrast is AFAIK a Baptist of some kind - more precisely, a:
  • Fundamentalist
  • Dispensationalist
  • Premillennial
  • KJV-only
one. If OS were Jack, I can’t imagine he would bother to post.
  1. Jack’s POV is vigorously ā€œCatholicism-unfriendlyā€, & attributes pretty well all evil of the last 2,000 years to the CC - OS is at least prepared to reason with Catholics, rather than denounce the CC as ā€œthe devil’s spawnā€ (to quote ā€œPlanet of the Apesā€). Try reasoning with chick.com, & you might get as many posts as one šŸ™‚ OS does not give up on Catholics as blinded by the devil, as Chick does: it’s because we are BBTD, that he wants to save us.

Well I have been told here I am going to hell here. šŸ™‚ The poster that informed me of my eternal destination has since (presumably) been moderated out.

But you are right, I have not seen any formal literature from Catholicism to that effect.

That is because the 2% of the Catholics that believe that do not really have a forum to organize and aggressively evangelize us out of our eternally damned state outside of anonymous posts over the internet and the like. While of course the 2% of the Protestants that believe that way can organize and make noise far out of proportion to their actual numbers and influence.

One of the disadvantages of ā€œno central authorityā€ I suppose.
I have been told several times i was going to hee on CAf always by catholics and for issues ranging from holding hands at the Our. Fathjer to reading Harry Potter

i used to collect these as a teenager, wish i still had them. if i could buy the whole set second hand id get them for novelty reading but i cant possibly put money in chick’s pocket.

Quite true; Some of the threads are pretty wild. But it is sad to see such things as the Chick tracts, for they do not reflect any kind of Christianity. It is easy even for Protestants to see how off-base they are.
they do not reflect any kind of christianity?

so you say that baptists, presbyterians, assemblies of God, and many others are not christians? for all of them use these tracks to remove catholics from the CC.

 :knight2:

Presbyterians use these things? Seriously? This is something you have seen?

have you heard of Scott Hanhn? he tells us how he removed catholics from the Church using tracks which today he regrets. he was a presbiterian minister.

The only thing I recall Scott Hahn mentioning is that classic of anti-Catholic lore, Lorain Boettner’s Roman Catholicism. Somebody gave me a copy but I threw it out. I regret that now. What a monument.

if one ask if these attacks on the CC has destroyed the faith of many. i would say yes. it continues to be a problem for the CC.
it is worse now than never, since these religions continue to grow now more than ever.
i refrain myself from ever bashing any religion or even point out their wrongdoings. for how are we different from them if we do as they do. therefore respect for others it is the best we can do.

So i use reason and faith when speaking to any who do not consider us worthy. i also avoid any type of negative comments about the CC.

I didn’t find ā€œChickā€ when I searched Hahn’s web site.

I think the church places too much emphasis on rituals and religious acts when a personal relationship with God is far more important than symbolic actions.
Why would you assume that Catholics don’t have a personal relationship with Christ? We Catholics see Jesus’s treament of the poor, 2000 years of history, and our very human nature, of proof that faith is a communial expirence. We share our personal relationship with Christ with others.

What is more personal than eating His flesh and drinking His blood at every mass?

would say that the jews have no personal relationship with God because of their too many rituals, laws and rules?

Why everbody beat up on the poor Catlicks?
Eh?
So they got icons - they know the commandment about graven images, and tell you they don’t worship them. Which is worse, that, or iconoclast loonies running around smashing heads of icon possessors?
That’s devil work.
They imitate the Last Supper? How dreadful! To arms! Kill burn slay!
See above.
So some corrupt Italians who should have been locked up got their hands on the church power - that never happened in a Protestants church?
And they burned heretics! Euuuuuwwwww - good thing Protestants never burned any defenseless old ladies in some place like Salem on the say-so of some teenybopper girls who rolled around claiming Satan was sticking needles in their fannies.

Hasn’t our human pride done enough injury to our Lord? Are we just as stiffnecked and proud rebellious as the Jews were before the Lord unloaded on them?
mmmmm… nah.

Yuck - they think a MAN can forgive their sins - g’wan witcha.
In trust they tell another about their crimes, and that trust is respected. In the manner of our Lord they are told go and sin no more.
Any who think that’s a dodge with the Lord, that they can sin again and be cleansed, are not fooling the Lord or their confessor.
So some of those absolutions were mere wishful thinking, given to some strongman bandito - but many of them were probably sincere contrition - some smaller minds can’t grasp that there is punishment and there is cleansing.
The law of men can only punish - it takes something more to CLEANSE one of crime, and they found a way to do it. To allow those who are sincerely contrite to resume a life without crime - and God Bless’m for it too.

Sick Jack Chick is playing an ancient hatred that goes back to when Catholics and Protestants ran all over Europe shedding each others blood like wild animals, and Satan laughed with glee over it.
He is no different from Hitler or any others who use hatred to make their way in this world.

Enough already.

God bless you all.

I made a statement about literature; NOT people. But I will stand behind what I said, 110% because that so called Chick Tract stuff is an embarrassment to Christianity, and it does not reflect christianity.

I have personally seen people who have gone door to door and put literature in mailboxes, and not even have read what was in the literature! The tracts would not often reflect whether or not all the Christians who use them are true Christians.

A lot of the people who use the Chick Tracts can be reasoned with and will recognize their error pretty fast when it is pointed out. šŸ™‚

I agree with this statement.

I think Chick Tracts are used as much as they are because (1) the comic book format might be more readible than others (2) they are familiar (3) the folks using them really don’t know the theology that is behind the tracts and how offensive it is to some.

Hey, my first church used Chick tracts amongst others. They were much more aggressive evangelizers than other churches I have been to. I remember the ā€œThis Was Your Lifeā€ tract amongst others.

It’s called evangelism. It’s not a matter of trying to validate one’s own beliefs, or trying to strengthen a weak belief. It’s about trying to lead people out of what you believe to be a false religion that could damn their souls.
Evangelism…uh, no…you can paint it any color you want, but hate-mongering bigotry is still what it is. If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck…its a duck.
Was Saint Paul evil when he rebuked the idol worshippers in the book of acts? I think not. Was he trying to validate his own beliefs? No. Did this demonstrate that his religious beliefs were waek, requiring him to attack other religions? No. He was evangelising to people who didn’t know Jesus.
You are attempting to compare apples to grapefruit…doesn’t work.

I stand by my assessments.

Apples to grapefuit? More like apples to lug wrenches.
