Rumor now has it that he has converted to Catholicism.
Where did you hear this?

Has anyone gotten the video on Pope John Paul II yet and watched it?

From Jack Van Impe’s web site mission statement…

“We believe in… justification of the believer by grace through faith”

Sounds Catholic to me.

Although he still promotes “the rapture”, which is complete hogwash.

My aunt and her son left the Catholic Church after her second merrage to a protestant about 30 years ago. They are from Royal Oak Michigan Jacks hone base. Soon after they introduced me to his ministry and gave me some of his teaching tapes. I see the TV show once and a while. He has had to change his views of the Bible End Times many times over the years. I find that funny! He has ben anti-Catholic but I like how he has softened. I pray that he does convert!!!

As I was changing channels the other night, I heard him mention the word “Catholic”, so of course I stopped for my daily dose of Catholic bashing.

It wasn’t to be, though.

He was speaking about a book by a Catholic (I think) priest who appearantly disagrees with the amillenial Augustinian approach to Revelation, cited some Church fathers ,etc., etc. and how this priest’s book basically agrees with him (Jack).

Did anyone else catch this? If so, what is he talking about?

What is the purpose of all this end times prediction stuff? Aren’t we supposed to avoid all this?

I saw this. He also said how Priests have called him up and written letters to tell him that they love his work. He seems to like getting approval from The Catholic Church. He obviously respects the Church and is always looking for their approval.

I’ve watched JVI off and on over the years…just to try and catch his errors. He quotes from EVERYTHING out of context…Bible, Catechism, Church Fathers… If I’m not mistaken, I think his family roots are Belgium and that leads me to believe he was raised Catholic…just my hunch.

On this broadcast Mr. Van Impe declared that JPII had signed a document with the Lutheran church that stated that one is Saved by Faith Alone. And he was tickled pink about that. We are saved by Grace Alone. Correct me if I have stated this wrong.
I saw that episode! After he made that statement he slapped his bible and and said *“Alleluia, Luther had it right all along!” *

*I’m so glad I saw this thread tonight. I saw something on Jack VanImpe last night that weirded me out. First of all, I don’t normally watch this show. ( Rexella is just way too perky for me. :bounce:) However, I had some downtime during work and I was flipping through channels and caught him saying something about Pope John Paul 2 and I listened for a few minutes. They were talking about their new DVD on the Pope and I swear they said that Pope John Paul 2 predicted that the antichrist would be the last Pope; that he would be a good Pope, then fall away from the faith and be the antichrist. Has anybody heard that the Pope predicted about the antichrist in a specific manner like this? Did anybody else catch that show? I cannot vouch that I heard accurately because I was at work, so don’t quote me as saying that Jack VanImpe said this. *

I have seen the ad flyer for it and I was appalled.
Just before the conclave my ‘evangelical’ co-worker gave me a flyer from JVI, advertising a video about John Paul II. Several one-liners, teasers gave the impression that the Catholic Church was wrong and has come to his view, that JP II had embraced the 5 fundamentals of Christianity (I’m thinking this means sola fides, etc.). Claims we changed justification from works to grace in the new catechism, predicts the death throes of the RC church, calls ‘Christians’ to unite (papal envy?), the rapture was believed by early Christians, etc.
I was very distressed to see this, especially presented to me as “things to watch for.” My co-worker claims she felt this would be a basis for discussion on current events. She is impressed by his intelligence and his research. Of course she has not seen the video, or is aware of any details of the allegations.
Anyone seen it?
Thanks!

How do ya’ll use the quote button, and only get a portion of the quote, when I use it I get the whole post I am replying too. I have to cut and paste the old fashion way…lol.

My reply:
I was raised Southern Baptist, so let me see if I can remember what the 5 fundamentals are…
  1. Virgin Birth
  2. Jesus is the Son of God
  3. His death atoned for our sins
  4. Resurrection
5…I can’t remember :banghead: I think maybe he was sinless
I think what he was trying to say was that since Catholics believe in these things, they are considered Christians. Where as you know, many fundies don’t believe that Catholics are Christians.
I read somewhere that JVI, had a “road to Damacus” experince concerning Catholics, and that he repented from his anti catholic stance. I will see if I can find it and post the websites later.

Bye
Pam

Here are some links that explain his position. Warning many of the links are from anti catholics, that are attacking JVI.

Who’s Who of Prophecy – Jack Van Impe I like this one the best

Here is a quote from one article that I will cut and paste for those who don’t have time to read above links:

During the past few years, Van Impe and his ministry have become widely ecumenical and has openly patronized Roman Catholicism. Van Impe has said, “I have read the entire new catechism, 2800 points. And I know what they believe and we misrepresent them so often. I was one of those bigots who used to do it. And the Spirit spoke to me.”

Van Impe has even lauded Pope John Paul II, saying he and the pontiff both were adhering to the Bible for doctrine. Van Impe told a Trinity Broadcasting Network audience: “In all the Pope’s writings—I’ve never seen anyone who does it like I do it—he has hundreds and hundreds of Bible verses. If I dare to say there are less [sic] than seven to ten thousand Bible verses in the new catechism, backing everything they say, I wouldn’t be exaggerating. And he makes a statement and backs it with the Word of God. And I say, ‘Hey, I found someone who’s following the same method.’”

Hope this helps some…Pam:heart:

I don’t think he would say these good things about the Catholic Church just to bring Catholics into the ratings.
I think he would and does.

Still, I occasionally watch Van Impe and his porn-star wife Rexella just to see how close we are to the “end times” this week.

They’re a riot to watch sometimes.
