Overall, the royal and political establishment in Britain certainly seems to be warming up to Catholics in their midst again.
Tony Blair’s wife is a Catholic and it was well known that the PM was going to convert to Catholicism.

The Queen dubbed Cardinal Basil Hume as ‘my Cardinal’.

There have been many others the establishment warmed to.

Rees-Mogg has very few of the population warming to him, even among Catholics in the pews, as his voting record shows he is most certainly not on the side of the most disadvantaged.

He’s not necessarily well known for “hardline Catholic views”. He’s known for hardline conservative views, some of which (such as regards abortion / gay marriage) are also Catholic views. His passionate support for Brexit, for example, is not necessarily a Catholic view. It is a secular, political view.

Perhaps you right. It was more of a tongue-in-cheek statement that didn’t translate onto the internet.

Do you seriously imagine Rees-Mogg is going to lead the charge on making abortion illegal in the UK?

Mogg is witty, charming and articulate. Perhaps one of the most articulate Catholics I have heard in some time.
