You know I must say, the level of negativeness going on in this forum never ceases to amaze me. There seems to be a never ending supply of Perry Mason’s just lurking, waiting for the moment to spring into action and make a comment about someone’s parish. So, where were you when the baptismal font was placed under the stage? Is that a band on the stage? Doesn’t it seem odd that the band is directly in front of the congregation? What is the deal? This is a simple thread about baptismal fonts or tubs, and you just can’t wait to point out all the wrong doings of a parish, can you? Why don’t you quit acting like Perry Mason and instead act like someone who is soooooo deep under cover, that you can’t even reveal yourself?

Why is it when someone has a difference of opinion or is correct on Church teaching you call them “negative?” Most of us here have seen plenty of abuses, and it’s our right to question them. Don’t like it? Don’t look.

Okay…This is NOT picture of a Catholic church so no one has to be upset about church doctrine or w/e…we don’t have an altar at our church…its a stage. It may be different than your preferred style of worship but that doesn’t mean that we aren’t worshipping Jesus. This thread is getting off topic however so if you want to ask questions or tell me I’m wrong PM me. Thanks.

I agree that we are all at risk for excessive negativity on the forums, but interesting topics often work up a strong response, and I don’t have a problem with this thread. I understand that Baptism is most fully expressed by immersion, but we also practice infant Baptism. To require hot tubs in every parish for converts is like requiring a university library attached to every church for the RCIA program. If we are to have these baptismal pools, I would prefer that they be in a separate baptistry as was church tradition for ages. They are not attractive, and the plumbing alone is a typically an extravagance at best.

Please confirm that this is not the magnificent St. Mary’s Cathedral in Peoria?!Unfortunately the Cathedral in my diocese has one on the altar. The Cathedral is very gothic and beautiful- and then the jacuzzi is wooden colored, but when you touch it you notice it is plastic. It is very ugly and out of place- it could not have cost more than $400.

I found that by candestinlely dropping a few goldfish in the kiddy pool, most people realised how silly it looked.

Baptismal fonts are not only for converts. They are also for those who were raised by catholic parents who never received their sacraments. So don’t just assume that it’s converts who are getting baptised at the Easter vigil.

Now that you mention this, the one where I put the goldfish was probably a fish pod. They had to install steps and seats.This parish has a converted fish pond from Home Depot right in the middle of the main aisle
