Does anyone know of any good Catholic resources (especially books) that talk about historical background, authorship, audience intended for, date, meaning, etc of the book of James…and more specifically, James 2:21 “Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered his son Isaac upon the altar?”

My wife needs to write a paper on it. She goes to a Baptist school and, obviously, has only brought home Baptist resources on the subject. I was only able to find one internet resource by James Akin (very good, by the way), but she needs more published books in her bibliography.

Thanks!

I’d recommend the Navarre Bible Commentary, Catholic Epistles, which includes the Letter of James. It gives excellent background to the book and commentary, including on the verse you mentioned. The whole series is worth having.
