Oh, I am so disappointed she’s dating Mr. Wickham. I thought it was so romantic that she and Darcy played love interests and then fell in love. Anyway, Thanks for the update. Don’t think I can wait to see Jane, so I’m heading to the movies this weekend, come ____ or high water!😃

I don’t blame you. I’d see Becoming Jane this weekend even if it were playing two hours away. I’ve been looking forward to this movie ever sinse i heard of it last year.

I’m going back a few pages here but I wanted to mention two sequels, written in the manner of Jane Austen:

The Third Sister by Julia Barrett-It’s about Margaret Dashwood of S & S, her prospects, her dreams, her character and personality developing, and her suitors. Okay as this genre goes; fairly true to author and era.

Mansfield Revisited by Joan Aiken-About Fanny’s sister, Susan Price, overcoming her own class distinctions.

They are not Austen but one must appreciate their attempts to continue her stories.

I’ve never read any of the sequels based on Jane austen’s books, and I wouldn’t mind reading some as long as they don’t try to add things that have no business in a Jane Austen book. I’ve read reviews on some of the Pride and Prejudice sequels where the major complaint is that the books are “sexed up”.
I’ll look into the titles you mentioned though, they sound interesting.
Maybe I’m thinking of something else, but I thought I heard about a book that was released a few years ago that was an unfinished novel by Jane Austen. It had been completed by another author. Anyone know what I’m talking about? I’ll try looking it up to see if I find a title.
 
“The Third Sister” has very good morals and “Mansfield Revisited” is decent, so far (I am half way through). Always check the author and their other books and do a Google search on a few reviews of their books. It helps me avoid wasting my time with trash.
 
Has anyone else seen Becoming Jane yet? I wanted to discuss it with someone.

I saw it last Sunday and I liked it quite a bit. One time, I could swear I saw thong underwear showing beneath ‘Jane’s’ nightgown:eek: , but the language, clothing, and behavior seemed very similar to what Jane probably would have written. A few times it went a bit too far as Jane was very conservative or so she seemed, but I got very engrossed in the plot line. That is all I’ll say until someone else here sees it.
 
Ok, I know I’m probably pulling at straws here, but does anyone know what the name of the song is that play on the becoming Jane website? I’ve looked everywhere and cannot find it. I’m pretty sure it’s not from the soundtrack.
I just had some bad news. It seems that the movie still isn’t coming to my city yet. My cirty is always the last place to get any of the good movies:mad:

I just realized that I haven’t read my yearly Jane Austen. Gotta get to the Library for “Sense and Sensability”.****
 
I’m really sorry guys but I have to vent this.

(All IMO) I cannot freaking stand Pride and Prejudice. It is a bunch of people just sitting around and talking for 300 pages! No action, no emotion, no character depth, no plot twists, no exitement, engagement, or any kind of substance (or style for that matter) at all! The story is about a bunch of young do-nothings flirting and getting married, and the book has too many characters for any of them to shine. It’s not like watching wet paint dry, it’s like watching wet paint peel.

I believe the book is called Sanditon, and the authorship is listed as “by Jane Austen and Another Lady”

Aaargh! May as well say Hamlet is just about a guy ‘sitting around and talking’ for a few hours. The ‘talk’ is the most brilliant, sublime, witty, psychologically insightful and darned funny use of the English language anywhere.

Besides which, they do dance and walk a bit, after all 😉 :whistle:

Seriously, how can you say Elizabeth Bennet doesn’t shine? She has some fantastic one-liners that could be right out of a modern English sitcom. And that her telling off first Collins and then Darcy isn’t a good engaging and exciting bout of emotion? Makes every red-blooded girl stand up and cheer.

And Elizabeth’s finding out that Darcy helped her sister to marry his bitterest enemy, out of love for her and desire to help her! Seriously, you ain’t got a romantic bone in your body if you can’t appreciate a guy who goes to such lengths for his gal.

Sorry to say this, but reading you post is like watching wet paint dry. Don’t you think that posting a comment like that in this thread is a tad bit rude? I mean, you could have just said that you didn’t care for the writing of Jane austen and that would have been fine enough. Over kill comes to mind.
You must have been half asleep while reading the book, because it is not about some girls just talking and flirting. And the talking is basicaly the best part.
Not every books is action backed, some books depnd only on intelect, which for me are the best kind.
What kind of books do you find entertaining anyway?
 
At the time of her death Jane Austen had two incomplete novels, Sanditon and The Watsons both of these have been finished by various other authors at different times.
It’s a close race but I think Persuasion just squeezes past Pride and Prejudice as my favorite book, as her last completed novel I think Persuasion has more of the satiric wit than her earlier novels, and that’s one of the major reasons why she is among my favorite authors.
