Well, according to the vatican, it’s a holy day of obligation. the first known Marian feast…Mary, Mother of God. Now, I was converted in Philadelphia where it was a holy day. the vatican says unless it falls on a saturday or monday, you are not obliged as you go to mass already on Sunday, so you could consider it a vigil mass on a saturday or sunday may trump a monday holy day. For some reason…Even the Godless town of San Fransisco has it as a holy day…Bishops in LA, San Diego and Orange counties have decided they are above the vatican…can’t even go if you wanted since the bishops have decided in at least these counties…it’s somehow NOT a holy day…another reason for me and my husband to get out of town…so sad…to not follow the vatican because your particular liberal bishop has decided against it. No churches around me have the option to go. I have to just pray and keep the day as holy as I can
