Jcl/jcd?

Hi everyone,

I’m interested in getting a degree in Canon Law (a JCL, possibly eventually a JCD) but in my searchings, the only place in the US I can find a program is the Catholic University of America in DC. I’m in Portland, OR and while they have a nice summer program, it’s going to be hard for me to get over there (not to mention I’m just not a huge fan of the DC area).

Does anyone know of any other places in the US or Canada that might have Canon Law programs?

Perhaps one of the ponifical universities of rome, or a major seminary somewhere might have a correspondance program for laymen wanting to earn a JCL or JCD.
I dont think Mt Angel would, but perhaps My St Marys or Mundelein (just a guess).

Contact the St. Joseph’s Foundation. It’s a group of cannon lawyers. They may be able to give you information on how to become a canon lawyer and if something available nearer to your home.

What is a JCL and a JCD?

a JCL is a licentiate in canon law, which is sort of the equivilent of a Masters Degree. The JCD is a doctorate in the same field.
