Jealous of protestants

i sometime feel jealous that they don’t have to worry about mortal sins and trying to get to confession. they don’t seem to have to follow the same rules as us so they can just go to church pray and not worry. I’m not talking bout murder etc but the sins that we fight daily they are free its not fair surely it should be easier for cathoics to get to heaven but it seems protestantsistsism is the easier route.

Well, that’s not exactly true…Protestantism is a huge mess and I think every sect is falling farther and farther away from God, and their salvation is not assured but we can hope that they will

A) Be saved because of their ignorance or
B) Be converted to the Catholic Faith

Not saying that Catholics are assured of their salvation either, but at least we know the path to get there. Whether or not we follow it is up to us. The protestants are going off of a different map, and maybe they’ll get there, but maybe they wont.
 
I hear non- Catholics say the same thing about Catholics going to confession. We can commit whatever sins we like as long as we make the trip to the confessional booth on Saturday afternoon.
We are all sinners; Protestant, Catholic, whatever. I don’t see any reason why jealousy should play any part in this.
 
Just because they DON’T worry about those things doesn’t mean they don’t have to. As Catholics, we abstain from mortal sins because they are real and it is necessary. We go to confession because it is necessary. Just because protestants don’t believe that it is necessary, doesn’t mean that it isn’t for us OR them.

Protestants may get to Heaven. That’s between them and God. But I’d be surprised if purgatory wasn’t chock full of well-meaning protestants who now wish they’d gone to confession.

Not worrying about mortal sin and confession, and not needing to worry about them, are two different things. We all need to worry about them, some people simply don’t. Similarly, we all need to watch what we eat, but some people don’t.

The fact that they are unaware of the gravity of certain sins or the joys of confession are not things to be envied, they are things to be pitied.

I won’t speak for anyone else but I think I don’t take sin, any sin, seriously enough. I also know presumption is a sin and one that I can fall to. Jesus was very clear about the gate to salvation being narrow and the gate to destruction being wide. I don’t think any path, even the right one, is easy.

Don’t forget what the sacraments give us: grace!

This is not just some pious rhetoric, but is an ontological reality. When we receive the sacraments (particularly Reconciliation and Eucharist which we can and should receive frequently), we receive grace. And what is grace? The divine life of God Himself! It floods our souls and makes it possible for us to grow in holiness and become the saints we are called to be. It makes it possible for us to one day enjoy eternity with God in heaven.

So don’t shortchange grace just because it might seem in the short term that “ignorance is bliss.” We should not long for ignorance to assuage our consciences but rather long for Jesus and His Life to dwell within us through the grace of the sacraments.
 
Ask someone who has converted to Catholicism…then you will understand. Most seem to leave the Catholic Church because ‘it’s too hard’ most convert to Catholicism because ‘something was missing’.
 
Just because some one goes to confession doesn’t mean they get a free pass to heaven…or purgatory…it’s only if they are truly repentant in their confession…Jesus said that at the last judgement not everyone who said to me Lord…Lord…will enter the kingdom of heaven…only those who do the will of my Father who is in heaven

I’m not sure why you think this! All People have to worry about Mortal Sin and getting to confession. Many people don’t realize it yet but they will!🤷

I think it’s a terrifying thing to follow a religion that sometimes teaches
not even mortal sins will snatch you out of Jesus’ hand. Don’t you?

Any Christian who is not concerned or thinks they will go to heaven without repenting of any mortal sin is simply deceiving themselves. I would say this would be only the OSAS Protestant.

Most Protestants do not hold OSAS. When I was a fundamentalist Protestant we knew OSAS was contrary to scripture and false.

As a Protestant I had the same struggles as a Catholic. When I sinned, was sorry and repented I would confess my sin to God. However I was always concerned if God forgave me or if I was sorry enough. So like many Protestants, I knew, we could be troubled for several weeks till at some point it would slip from mind or we sinned again.

As a Catholic I go to Church repent, asking God to forgive me, confess my sins to the priest as scripture tells us to do. And have no more worry.

Any Catholic that thinks they can “commit any sins they like” and then go to Confession on Sat., definitely does NOT understand their Catholic Faith or the Sacrament of Confession. We have to be SORRY for the sins and and try our best not to commit them again. Go and sin no more! God Bless, Memaw

If we are Catholic and on the “right” path, we do have the Sacraments to help us. Especially Confession and the Holy Eucharist !!! God Bless, Memaw
 
If protestants are allowed to marry a divorced person and/or themselves remarry whereas the Catholic must remain celibate until they die then I can understand how it appears that they have it better but I would not trade the Eucharist and Confession.
 
I am saddened by much of what I am reading here

My childhood and much of my adult life was Church of England. In every service, Matins, Holy Communion, Evensong, there are prayers of confession.

The one of my times is written on my heart,

¶ To be said by the whole Congregation. after the Minister, all kneeling.

ALMIGHTY and most merciful Father; We have erred, and strayed from thy ways like lost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts. We have offended against thy holy laws. We have left undone those things which we ought to have done; And we have done those things which we ought not to have done; And there is no health in us. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable offenders. Spare thou those, O God, who confess their faults. Restore thou those who are penitent; According to thy promises declared unto mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord. And grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake; That we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, To the glory of thy holy Name. Amen.
