I think it is a common tactic to say even the priest couldn’t answer. There was movie about a “psychic” which had a scene about him asking a priest a question that he was dumb founded to answer. I don’t recall the question but I do remember screaming at the t.v. that a first grader could of answered it.

I doubt that the article is honest. I see the problems that the OP sees. This is not Catholic thought and would not occur to a Catholic because the questions do not make sense to a Catholic. These are questions that JW’s would have. I believe they used a fictitious woman to ask them. Since they have no contact with Catholicism, they wouldn’t have a clue as to how a priest would truly answer. Better to make him stupid and unable to answer.

In my area, 65% of all JW’s are fallen away Catholics. Very sad. 😦
My Hispanic ( and once heavily Catholic) neighborhood is heavily targeted by JWs. They come twice a month, always asking me which of my neighbors speaks Spanish.

2 years ago, within an 8 block radius, there were 7 Mary shrines. Now there is only one left. ( Unless you count my Virgin of Guadalupe in plaster above the door)

Re what you said about JWs…pretty much all religions claim to be “the one, true religion” – including the Catholic one–don’t they?
I don’t think it’s just JWs who feel that their beliefs are the most or only right, truthful ones…

.
Agreed, why else join a religion?

One thing I can say for certain having been born and raised a JW: JW’s are consistent in mentioning only negative things about the Catholic faith, and nothing positive. They are also strongly guided toward getting their religious information from JW sources alone. So they do not need to even invent stories to accomplish their goal. All they need to do is publish negative stories (true or not), and never ever mention something positive, and their members consider the entire Catholic faith as categorically wicked. I was stunned when I allowed myself to start finding out what the Catholic faith is really about. It is wonderful, and I feel foolish for having been so mislead. I often wonder if the writers of JW literature are simply uninformed (which is bad), or deceitful (worse!). I suspect it’s a little of both, but both are inexcusable. To any who have never been a JW or close to a JW, please understand, it is a very strange and harmful mindset which is difficult to explain.

Well JWs have a big dislike for the RCC. They think the RCC is the big apostate church and Protestant churches are the children pretty much of the big apostate Church and they will all be destroyed at Armageddon. Plus they constantly preach against the Trinity doctrine and the immortal soul which Catholics obviously adhere to. They will intentionally lie to point fingers at everyone else but them, sadly they are misled.

If one has to break the 8th Commandment to push their beliefs that’s pretty sad. God Bless, Memaw

You’re dealing with a cult that uses a mis-translated bible that has no scholarship behind it whatsoever so I’m not sure what else you can say here except to encourage prayer and spreading the truth when one is competent enough to do so.

The JW version of translation–made in 1961, I think–is thought to be more accurate because since the King James version was produced, earlier transcripts of original texts in Greek and Hebrew had been found…so new translations of some passages came directly from such texts for the first time.

.
Answer: The New World Translation (NWT) is defined by the Jehovah’s Witnesses’ parent organization (the Watchtower Society) as “a translation of the Holy Scriptures made directly from Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek into modern-day English by a committee of anointed witnesses of Jehovah.” The NWT is the anonymous work of the “New World Bible Translation Committee.” Jehovah’s Witnesses claim that the anonymity is in place so that the credit for the work will go to God. Of course, this has the added benefit of keeping the translators from any accountability for their errors and prevents real scholars from checking their academic credentials.
The New World Translation is unique in one thing – it is the first intentional, systematic effort at producing a complete version of the Bible that is edited and revised for the specific purpose of agreeing with a group’s doctrine. The Jehovah’s Witnesses and the Watchtower Society realized that their beliefs contradicted Scripture. So, rather than conforming their beliefs to Scripture, they altered Scripture to agree with their beliefs. The “New World Bible Translation Committee” went through the Bible and changed any Scripture that did not agree with Jehovah’s Witness theology. This is clearly demonstrated by the fact that, as new editions of the New World Translation were published, additional changes were made to the biblical text. As biblical Christians continued to point out Scriptures that clearly argue for the deity of Christ (for example), the Watchtower Society would publish new editions of the New World Translation with those Scriptures changed. …
It is only the Watchtower’s pre-conceived heretical beliefs that are behind the dishonest and inconsistent translation that is the New World Translation. The New World Translation is most definitely not a valid version of God’s Word. There are minor differences among all the major English translations of the Bible. No English translation is perfect. However, while other Bible translators make minor mistakes in the rendering of the Hebrew and Greek text into English, the NWT intentionally changes the rendering of the text to conform to Jehovah’s Witness theology. The New World Translation is a perversion, not a version, of the Bible.

They just released a new revision of the NWT a couple of weeks ago. I’m pretty sure it downgrades Christ even more to a mere angel
