So do you Call Jesus Lord Or by his Name?
Do you address you own father as dad or by his first name?
Would you have a problem calling God Abba, Father?

Perhaps your bible translation says stake, but mine says cross. Let me ask you what you think of Galatians 3:1 (O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?) Romans soldiers crucified people on +'s not l’s.
Bible: New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures
Galatians 3:1-

" O senseless Ga·la´tians, who is it that brought YOU under evil influence, YOU before whose eyes Jesus Christ was openly portrayed impaled? "

they changed it to fit their dogma.

I hope they start telling us that Prince Charles started the Catholic Church to divorce his wife. 😛 😛 😛
That is exactly the thing I fear most…the present generation not knowing their history and spreading their ignorance of it to future generations.

To quote from a novel: “If you don’t know history, you don’t know anything. You were like a leaf that did not know it was part of a tree.

Is that from Time Line? I loved that quote. It’s so true! I see that in Korea all the time. Most of my students have been taught to hate Japan (and Korea does have very good reasons to hate Japan.) But when I ask my students, “Why do you hate Japan?” they can’t tell me.

I will never refer to God as Jehovah because that is not his name. “Jehovah” is the result of a misreading of the Hebrew text into which vowels were inserted by the Massoretes. It’s a mistake. Any Bible scholar can tell you that.
That is DEAD WRONG. The name “Jehovah” or “Yahweh” is the personal redemptive name of The Lord. It is used throughout scripture and is a great way to call on The Lord.

Hi NewPerspective,

what flyersfan was pointing out was that scholars don’t believe
that Jehovah is a correct translation of the name from Hebrew to Latin to English.

In Hebrew it is Yahweh.
Correspondingly, from Latin to English, it
would be more accurately rendered JAHVEH, not Je-Ho-Vah.

Personally, I use LORD, Yahweh, and Jehovah interchangeably.

Yahweh is correct, Jahveh would be correct.
flyersfan was also pointing out that the Hebrew Text has
no vowels, and accurately states that the Masoretes
used the vowel points for ADONAI wherever the tetragrammaton occurs in the Old Testament Hebrew manuscripts.

anybody post this link yet?

newadvent.org/cathen/08329a.htm

fantastic treatment of “Javeh” —I am considering using this pronunciation.

“Jehovah” and “Yahweh” have been uncomfortable for me since I left JWs.

a question tho—in english, does the last syllable rhyme with “stay” or “bleh”? “ay” (long vowel a) or “eh” (short vowel e)?
(or “ah” ???)

Hi All
May be Jehovahwitness has seen posting #20 in thread “Yahweh vs Jehovah”, posted by RabbiAdamBernay. RabbiAdam argued that in Hebrew Jehovah can be interpreted as “God is Destroyed”. Please go to the posting.
Please do not take things at face value even if it is posted by a person calling them self RabbiAdamBernay. Either this person made a mistake or there are other motives involved.

I did some of my own checking on this and found that the Rabbi has made a mistake.

Ex3:14 God says his name is I AM the Hebrew interlinear says the word is HAYAH which is Strongs # 1961 that means to exist or to be.

Ex 3:15 God also says his name and in the Hebrew interlinear it is Yehovah which is Strongs #3068 meaning sefl existent or eternal.

Hey,
Why are you even on here? As a JW don’t you know yet that you’re commanded by the governing body at WT Headquarters NOT to read apostate literature?

Just wondering. . .

I am someone who is reading the whole bible and studying it and no one can give me answers except the Jehovahs witnesses and why is it you can only date the catholic faith back to henry the 8th oh i know because he made catholic so he could have more wifes.
This is, without a doubt, the funniest post I have ever seen, anywhere, on any topic. I may not read any more of the thread, for fear of spoiling the effect.

Dear JeanneH,

I don’t have any trouble to call God as Yahweh or Yehovah. I just found the Rabbi’s writing to be interesting. I did ask him if he is indeed a Rabbi. Being from the “eastern” part of the world, I never have any discussion with a jew before. Calling himself a rabbi, did arouse my interest to know this person more.

NP,

What kind of “Relationshipist” are you?

Your profile isn’t too clear on this. So, what is it? Are you a ‘personal’ Relationshipist or some other kind.

I can’t find any reference to your listed ‘faith’ in the BIble. Can you help us here?

Thanks

Robert

Dear Swariffin,

I have no problem calling God Yahweh or Yehovah either. I just didn’t like that he had translated the wrong Hebrew word and managed to make God’s name Jehovah to mean God destroys.
If he is a rabbi he doesn’t know his Hebrew bible or language very well and people might beleive what he writes without investigating for themselves and I think that could be dangerous.

God Bless

Pfft read the bible mate.

his name in hebrew is YHWH or Yahweh which in english in Jehovah and it also says in the bible onyl 140000 are going to heaven come arrageddon not all of us because **we will rain on earth for the 100 years **when the devil is thrown into the abyss.

then after the 1000 years he will be released and then we will live forever when JEHOVAH kills him.

don’t believe me read the bible.
I see you don’t believe in Amillenialism. I hate to bring up the pre-mill subject but, the ones reigning with God are the Apostles and the martyrs who died during the battles with the beast. (Those who had not worshiped the beast) They where the ones under the altar in the initial vision (Rev 6:9-10)

Please notice that it is “souls” who are mentioned as ruling (Rev 20:4) There isn’t even the slightest justification for assuming these are souls with bodies. They are not. The resurrection of all people for their final judgment has not occurred yet. Not until the resurrection of all humanity will souls be given their glorifed bodies like Christ (Rev 20:12)

These reigning souls are the saints in Heaven right now, the Church Triumphant. (But that is another topic)

Peace,

Ryan 🙂

Ryan, JWs believe the soul IS he body. They are also rabid millennialists. And their New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures is specifically altered to support their beliefs, so while they may CLAIM to honor other Bible translations they reject them all in reality. It won’t make any diff to them what Bible support you come up with or other scholarly literature–they reject everything but their own. Your best bet for JW apologetics is the sloppy Greek Interlinear they came up with. THey are indoctrinated to believe that anything not published by the Watchtower Society is Satan’s attempt to mislead them. Even the good old King James. (very presumptuous actually.)

It looks like everyone left Jehovahswitness behind on page one. I’d be interested in hearing what he has to say about the 144,000 mentioned in Revelation.

show me all your proof for all this then for i have my proof the bible.

the 140000 will rain with Jesus and be the new goverment over the whole earth don’t believe me read the bible.
Yes, only 144,000 Jewish male virgins will govern the earth. According to the Bible, the 144, 000 will be taken from the 12 tribes of Israel and they will consist of those who have not defiled themselves with women. If we’re going to take the “144, 000” literally, we might as well be consistent and take the rest literally as well.

God Bless,
Michael

But when I ask my students, “Why do you hate Japan?” they can’t tell me.
not to be off subject, because this thread makes me giggle, but that is kinda like asking “neo-nazi” wannabes here why they hate jews. you usually get some silly answer if you get an answer at all.

Yes but people do not they say we are unworthy but we are not and well I want people to know that you should all call him by his name not lord or god because they are titles.

It also says in the bible that we should not call priests farther.
So why do catholics and cristians who go to church call there priests farther and you are supposed to get baptised like Jehovahs witnesses not in the church and it also says in the bible Jesus died on a stake not a cross want proof on all of this read the Holy Scriptures the ones that include Jehovahs name would be a good choice.
If Jesus meant that the word “father” was not to be applied to any humans, why would he refer to “Father Abraham” in the parable of the rich man and Lazarus? See Luke 16:24. Did Jesus not also say “Honor your father and your mother.” Matt. 15:4 In Acts 7:2 we read: “Stephen said: Brothers and fathers, hear me…’” And in 1 Cor. 4:14-15 St. Paul calls himself “father.” Apparently what Jesus said doesn’t mean what you say it does.
