Do unresponsive homes eventually get “taken off the list”, so to speak? Most members of the local congregation probably know the same uninterested people live in this house as did thirty-five years ago, and since we’ve never shown any interest, I can’t help but wonder if they’ve simply stopped trying to convert us. Once again, we have no interest in converting, so certainly won’t be seeking contact with anyone.

I believe they do keep records, in my case they have stopped for a stretch but eventually come back. I have never noticed them being around but passing my house.

I just give them a welcoming smile, let them know we’re saved and attend church. They then ask if we’ll take the brochure. I should have a Miraculous Medal or something available, but I don’t want them to throw it away.

Blessings,
Cloisters

Yes they do. I always gave them a “run for their money”. And if one would mention they “used” to be Catholic, I gave them a strong emphases on the Holy Eucharist. They finally quit coming around and my neighbor once overheard them saying “they don’t go to the house across the street.” I’m the only house across the street. God Bless, Memaw

Live out where they can’t find you! (Although, oddly enough, a good many kingdom halls in my area seem to be in the middle of nowhere). Anyway, I’ve never had one out here in the country.

Not sure about that … I’ve had JW and Mormon missionaries knock on my door and chat w/ me right next the my very large Blessed Mother statue in the front yard. 🙂

Our municipality offers “no soliciting” signs for front doors to residents. Their ordinance on solicitation covers JWs and other proselytizing efforts, so if they ignored the sign, they could be in trouble. A lot of places also require permits to go door-to-door, and asking to see the permit is a good way to scare off people.

Sometimes they leave literature, but I can handle that. We get a LOT of solicitors in our neighborhood, and they have a real knack for ringing the bell at naptime.

In general, I think it’s a very obnoxious tactic regardless of who’s doing the knocking and why. But I’ll admit to being a big introvert and being caught off guard in my own home might be a bigger deal to me than it is to most. :o

We have a Kingdom Hall within walking distance of my house.God Bless, Memaw

I don’t know if this was sinful or not, but I had a wasp nest growing by my front door. I didn’t take it down to keep solicitors and JWs away. I would be sleeping and they constantly would wake me up.

They would see the nest and turn right around and walk away. Of course I would have felt awful if someone got stung, but they never did. Don’t know if I would do that now though.

You were just doing your part to protect nature 👍

You’d think that JW’s would target WASPs, too… 🤷

I really enjoy a visit from the JWs or the Mormons. However, my wife says it is not good for my soul as I play with them and get too much enjoyment out of it. I have sometimes fallen so far into this abusive play that I have invited them back. I am thinking of joining the local Mormon mooners therapy group or the JW withdrawal unit at my local parish, but the urge is irresistible when I see those white shirts and black panted pairs walking down the path, or the family group dressed as if they were just out of the Waltons television series with their little pamphlets or a copy of the Watch Tower.
I tell myself that being house bound and bored is mitigation, but I wonder if the cost of the human wreckage left behind is morally acceptable .

I welcome missionaries from every religion!

I love the opportunity to teach them.

It has been my experience that both Mormons and Jehovah’s Witnesses have very clear files on “investigators” whom they believe are open to their messages.

In my area JWs appear to be only trying to convert Hispanics house to house now. We are an English speaking Anglo household and of no interest. Occasionally one will knock on the door and ask us if there are any Spanish speakers around but they aren’t interested in me anymore.

I had some JW come to my door last year to invite me to some event they were having. This was right after I was confirmed into the Catholic Church so I politely told them that I had just gone through a lot of theological study and prayer and determined that the Catholic Church is truly Christ’s church. Their expressions quickly shifted and they immediately left. They then got in their car and sat right outside of my house for like 10 minutes before driving off. When I told my friend who is Catholic but has family connections to JW, she said they were probably marking me as a “do not return” house. I haven’t seen them since…

One thing I really wish I could have more confidence is talking to JW/Mormons/Protestants about the Catholic faith. I feel like I can’t accurately “debate” theology. Something for me to pray about!

I am full on impressed you were able to sleep knowing there was a wasp nest on your house. I would be having full on panic attacks. Props to you! :bigyikes::bigyikes::bigyikes::bigyikes:

First of all, WELCOME !

Next, keep learning, confidence will come. I find a lot of times talking to those outside the Church exposes something I am lacking and an opportunity to become a stronger Catholic for it.

Congregations! Deep prayer and theological study are fantastic things.

I cannot speak for anyone by LDS, but “debating” is not a very successful way to share your views with them. Rather, share your heart: share what you found/find so amazing and convicting about the Catholic faith.

Yes, I used the word “debate” but not with the intention of aggressive tactics. More so discussing what they believe about topic X, then discuss what Catholics believe, with personal stories mixed in there. Basically I just want to be able to take all of the facts and thoughts regarding my beliefs that are in my head and be able to communicate them in a reasonable manner.

About 1982, I spoke with them and asked them if they believe the Bible. Yes of course they sad. I asked them them to read Deuteronomy 18:22 22
if a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD but the word does not come true, it is a word the LORD did not speak. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; do not fear him.

Then I asked them about the Watchtower prophecy for 1975. They couldn’t give an answer but said they would get back with me. Next week, they came with their elders who denied the prophecy. I showed them copies of the Watchtower talking about it. They claimed it was a fraud. From then on I did not get another visit.
