They came to my door in Western Wisconsin and gave a speal about the elections, asking if I was glad they were over. Then they tried to introduce their world government under
(presumably) Jesus. I wasn’t awake or astute enough to think that the Catholic Church is this government, so instead I just said what they teach isn’t true and brought up in particular their denial of the Nicene Jesus. Was this a good approach? I have a friend who’s JW, fallen away Catholic and I don’t know how to reach her.

Nicene was after Constantine’s conversion, right? So no, they won’t accept that. They believe he syncretized Christianity with paganism. Remember, you’re talking to people who think Christmas trees are evil. You’re gonna have to prove from the Fathers and such that Christians held to our beliefs long before Constantine.

JWs don’t allow the word “father”.:tsktsk: It is in the Bible. Of course, one could ask what they call their biological fathers.

Have you visted the Tracts section of the Catholic.com website?

There are seven tracts about the JWs in the non-Catholic religions section which may give you some insights in reaching your friend. (You’ll also find five tracts about the Mormons. I think the Mormon missionaries were laying low before the election; we may be seeing them more often fairly soon.)

Armed with those tracts and other research, I frequently welcome the JWs at my door. The pairs usually consist of a well-schooled elder who stands in the back and a junior JW who does most of the speaking. My objective is to knock some holes into the wall around the junior. I know I’m getting through when the elder suddenly announces that it’s time for them to move on.

But if I’m busy and I just want to get rid of them in a hurry, I ask them to bow their heads so that I can bless them in the name of Jesus Christ Our God and Savior. In fact, I INSIST on blessing them in the name of Jesus who is our God.

Since they believe that Jesus is not God, they usually leave pretty fast.

A great resource is The Essential Catholic Survival Guide which is, just coincidentally, available right here. It’s even on sale right now! It has chapters on the JWs, as well as numerous other topics. Get one!

As to the JWs, just drop the term “hypostatic union” and watch their eyes glaze over. This will occur each time you lead them off of their script.

I ask them what Charles Taze Russell’s authority to interpret scripture was. He claimed no visions of prophecies. The entire JW corporation and belief system is based on nothing more than Mr. Russell’s personal opinion. Nothing more. Also ask them about the various schisms and why you should follow them, and not the original “Bible Students” (BS) from which they split off.

Mostly, just pray for them, as they have denied even the sovereign Lord who has delievered them. **2 Peter 2:1 **
