Bella (after reading your remarks, I’m not sure that the name suits you), I read through this post late, but I hope this reaches you and those who applauded you for your random, bigoted and miopic comment.
Of what exactly do you think those college girls had to be ashamed? Their “blackness”? What exactly have they “made themselves into”? Do you take issue with the texture of their hair or are you making a sweeping indictment of “people of color” in general? Have you any knowledge of American history? Do you care about the safeguarding the dignity of those outside of your social circle? I assume you think it’s fine to make disparaging and insensitive remarks about whomever (on national television, no less) as your mood suits you. I’m appalled by your ungenerous and hateful remark and saddened that it come from a fellow Catholic. YOU should be ashamed.
 
He should apologize because regardless of his feelings about homosexuals, there is no reason to be mean and hateful about it.

Hey!! Dude or Dudette- get a grip ok? I was trying to be sarcastic regarding some of the other comments that have been made. Maybe YOU should be ashamed that you didn’t get it!!

Sheesh… sometimes it feels like my entire reason for coming to these forums is to expose all of the spewed hypocracy.

Sadly those are the views of many a poster here. Hypocracy is allowed to rule on many threads. That is what I was referring to. Not your post.
 
Bah! I like the joke! Thought I was funny to!

That ol’ boys still got it. If anything he should have apopologized the the children that may have been watching the show, not the gays. They get kissed up to enough. Still, I don’t think the show was intended for kids anyway. That hilarious skit with the monkey puppet mentioned pornography, so…And why hades? Why not Hell?
 
He was wrong for making improper jokes about anyone. How would we like it if he made jokes about Catholics? After all religion is a choice is it not?

Doesn’t this happen like every day? I don’t see a huge up cry or the ACLU running to defined the Church.

It is wrong to make jokes about either group. I really can’t believe I see people on a Catholic forum not only defending these stupid remarks about gays but actually praising them.

I agree. So I refuse to be politically correct on the conservative side as well. Anyone, ANYONE, who praises someone for making rude comments about anyone else ought to be rushing to confession.

That doesn’t apply here.

It was suggested that because there isn’t a formal apology when somebody makes a Christian joke on TV, there shouldn’t have to be one when Jerry Lewis uses an offensive slur.

It’s obviously pertaining only to US culture.

Try Googling for stories about murdered Christians. So they don’t count because they’re not Americans?

It was pointed out that the American Civil Liberties Union is not usually up in arms every time the church is attacked.

My counterpoint was to question how often you see somebody murdered for being a Christian. Or to rephrase it for you:

The American Civil Liberties Union should not be expected to defend Christians as fiercely as homosexuals because it’s very rare that negative church sentiment ever turns violent, whereas homosexuals are killed for who they are commonly.

Now can you kind of understand how my point was limited to Christians in America?
