Jesuit priest applied for laicization

A jesuit priest in my diocese has applied for laicization. Please pray for him. He has been the parish priest of on of the jesuit parishes, which has had a rumour of being somewhat liberal when it comes to questions regarding the Church’s teaching on issues like homosexuality and contraception (I have been surprised myself when talking to some of the parish’s priests abouts these issues).

In contrast to this, this now former parish priest has been known for being very faithful to the Church’s teaching, not mention being much loved among both fellow priests and many of the youth of the parish. His only comment so far is that after years of struggling, he has come to the decision that “I cannot and do not want to walk this path any longer”.

Why do things like this happen? Is it because mistakes can be made when the Church decides what candidates are suited for the priesthood? Or is it because struggling priests do not receive sufficient spiritual guidence? Or is it sometimes God’s will for someone to work as a priest just for some years and not their whole life?

I can understand that it can be hard to work as a priest if you are not happy while doing it. But is it ever God’s will for a priest to be laicized? If yes, please explain. If not, why does the Church provide it and allow laicized priests to marry?
