Hello! :tiphat:

Have any of you had any direct experience with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps or heard anything about them? I am currently a senior in college and am thinking of joining the group after I leave college for one year. So far, I have heard good things about it, but I have also heard something in regards to liberation theology. I do not know much about it, but I do know that a lot of it is at odds with Catholic teaching. If one joins JVC, can one safely ignore the liberation theology aspects (if there are any) while enjoying the rest that the program has to offer?

I know a couple of people who have served in the JVC. One worked assisting a legal clinic for the homeless and another worked as a teacher in a very poor school. Liberation theology had nothing to do with it. It was a way of living out social justice ideals.

Do you know if their experience was a positive one overall? Did they recommend it to others?
 
They both had very positive experiences. Perhaps if you contacted the JVC folks they could put you in touch with some of their alumni who could give you a more personal take on things.
