I think you will find this article interesting.

Thats a very interesting opinion piece, thanks for posting it. I’ve experienced a lot of what the author was talking about since becoming vegetarian. I know what he means about the energy, since becoming veg I’ve had soooo much more energy and need less sleep each night, its great.

Going veg isn’t for everyone obviously, but the perks are wonderful…except eating out can be a real pain the neck.

God gave us dominion over the animals, not the other way around.

And the Mongolian BBQ was awesome tonight!! 👍

There is nothing wrong with going veggie for Lent, just be sure to adjust the protein level in your diet. You don’t have to start scarffing down tofu but increasing other sources of protein like beans, peanut butter and dairy products is a good idea. You also need to watch your intake of carbohydrates too, they can cause you to really put on weight. And yes it IS possible to be overweight AND malnourished.

God DID give us dominion over the animals, he also gave us the responsibility of stewardship. It IS morally acceptable to eat animals it IS NOT morally acceptable to mistreat animals.

Its proven that the more animals people use and consume the more carbon gets released into the air. This used to not be problem but with the world population over 6.5 billion people and countries like the US not giving a rats butt about the environment its too much for the atmosphere to cope with on its own…hence global warming. Its simple science really
Last week when Algore was doing his non-scientific talk in Washington. NASA announced that Mars is getting warmer the icecaps are melting like it is here on Earth boy those evil cows sure get around.

What needs to be put on the table about global warming is that the Sun is getting hotter don’t take my word for it this is what NASA is finding out.

Not all this non science stuff Algore and the socialists are putting out.

Of course the MSM was all goo-goo over Algore and you didn’t hear about NASA’s findings.

Animals … it’s what’s for dinner.

Animals are food. They know it. They deal with it. THEY EAT EACH OTHER FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!

I agree with brotherolf here. Humans are omnivores, period. It is in our nature to consume both animals and vegetables and our organisms are built for animal fat as well as vegetable fat and fiber. And the ethical claims just don’t cut it with me either, especially not when the PETA types I have known (and I have know MANY) tend to be so rabidly pro-abortion and pro-euthanasia.

Now, I have nothing against vegetarianism per se, I even tried it out once upon a time for a couple of years (primarily hoping to lose weight, and it didn’t really work out either) and have held on to my cookbooks from that time. There are some dishes that I still enjoy making and eating. Being vegetarian is not as boring a regimen as non-vegetarians seem to think it is either (you don’t subsist on salads all the time); you can eat some pretty varied and interesting things on a veggie diet.

BUT …

Meal preparation is generally more time consuming and it isn’t necessarily a cheap way to go if you want variety in your diet. If you’re content just to live on legumes and rice then, yes, it is cheap. But if you want to try some more interesting and exotic things to keep the variety going then it can start getting a tad expensive.

I gave it up. I LIKE eating critters. A big juicy sirloin trumps a hummous plate ANY FREAKIN’ DAY OF THE WEEK!

P.S., nothing in the above should be taken to imply that I approve of the cruelty of factory farming. I am in favour of sustainable family farming with animals being bred and raised in a more traditional and humane fashion.

Now pass the Lea & Perrins, please …😉

God has also given us the ability to do scientific research on nutrition that shows us that there is no necessity for meat in the diet. ergo, the slaughter of animals for our food is needless (see 2418).
**CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH **

2415 The seventh commandment enjoins respect for the integrity of creation. Animal, like plants and inanimate beings, are by nature destined for the common good of past, present and future humanity. Use of the mineral, vegetable and animal resources of the universe cannot be divorced from respect for the moral imperatives. **Man’s dominion over inanimate and other living beings granted by the Creator is *not ***absolute; it is limited by the concern for the quality of life of his neighbour, including generations to come; it requires a religious respect for the integrity of creation.

2416 Animals are God’s creatures. He surrounds them with his providential care. By their mere existence they bless him and give him glory. Thus men owe them kindness. **We should recall the gentleness with which saints like St. Francis of Assisi or St. Philip Neri treated animals. **

2417 God entrusted animals to the stewardship of those whom he created in his own image. Hence it is legitimate [The word legitimate implies that there are boundaries not to be crossed] to use animals for food and clothing. They may be domesticated to help man in his work and leisure. Medical and scientific experimentation on animals, if it remains within reasonable limits, is a morally acceptable practice since it contributes to caring for or saving human lives.

2418 It is contrary to human dignity to cause animals to suffer or die needlessly. It is likewise unworthy to spend money on them that should as a priority go to the relief of human misery. [Then why do we feed so much grain that can feed so many people to animals just so that we can eat them?] One can love animals; one should not direct to them the affection due only to persons.

2457 Animals are entrusted to man’s stewardship; he must show them kindness. They may be used to serve the just satisfaction of man’s needs.
Furthermore, morality and ethics are two different things. Yes, it is not inherently sinful nor immoral to use animals for food, but we can clearly see when circumstances have become grossly unethical, especially when compared to our Christian standards.

they are also polygamous. by your reasoning we should disregard all morals altogether becasue the animals don’t have morals. We are above the animals, created in God’s image, and have CONSCIENCE. Let’s not abuse that.

Some animals are promiscuous and some are not. St. Thomas Aquinas shows how the monogomous animals have certain traits that require monogamy and how human beings share these same traits and that is why it is reasonable and part of natural law that human beings are monogomous by nature (and deviations from this are disordered).

Human beings eating meat passes the natural law test (and there is also no explicit divine or eccelsiastical prohibition–in fact the Holy Scriptures warn about those who say it is immoral to eat meat).

IMNHO vegetarians seem to be a bit more prone to depression, and vegetarianism can be a way of compensating for guilt of some kind. It’s just an observation I don’t have anything scientific to back that up.

Th
As Ghandi once said: “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated”

I believe this and it makes me afraid for this country.
Ghandi ALSO wrote a letter to the British government in 1941 that pleaded with them to surrender to the Nazis to avoid war at all costs.
He said that the Jews should have committed collective suicide by jumping off of cliffs instead of letting Hitler get them and instead of fighting his warped ideals. Ummmmmm . . . yeah, right.
I don
**'t pay too much attention to Ghandi, but, as for animals, we need to be good stewards all the Lord has given us. **
Eat them, yes - torture them, no.

Ah yes, the Hitler card has been played. Designed solely to evoke emotion and a response more to your likeing. Gandhi did some amazing things, just because he wasn’t perfect doesn’t mean we should discredit him all together… I’m sure that he had some reason that is obviously beyond your grasp for doing such things. If we used logic like you’re trying to use people would have adandoned a lot of things (including religion) by now.

A) It’s a joke. If you felt offended, I sincerely apologise, but sheesh… 😉

B) Nothing I said justifies your conclusion in the above quote. It does not follow logically from my statements.

C) Not all animals are polygamous. The wolf is notably monogamous. Eats meat too, including you if necessary.

D) Animals are yummy.

😃

well that is a falsity.

Like I said it’s just an observation. Using the same reasoning I can say the same about socialists and people who drive Volkswagens, anyone in post-graduate studies and the entire population of Berkley under the age of 30.

I guess you’re not a SC-FI fan?🤷

Star Wars, Star Trek, Lost In Space, and Battlestar Galactica.

I did make a typo on the Millenium Falon.:o but I’m half Polish so I’m allowed by law to be stupid most of the time.😛

Isn’t it Falcon? I have heard of those. Seen Star Wars, some Star Trek. But I am not very knowledgible about sci-fi in general.
