Could you look at a Jesus as a warrior figure?

Could you see Jesus carrying a sword and shield in the End times when he comes back?

No, Jesus is the suffering servant; the Most Holy Lamb of God.

First century Jews wanted a warrior Messiah and this is why they had a hard time accepting Jesus.

Jesus is the just King who will judge people fairly according to what they have done. He does not wish for the death of a sinner, but wants all sinners to repent and turn to him.

Yes, He came in all humility to redeem mankind for Himself and was essentially hidden to all except those who had eyes to see and ears to hear. When He returns, however, He will come in glory manifesting His full authority.

At the end times Christ will come back as a conquerer destroying evil once and for all. In the past, the anglo-saxon Christians had no problem viewing Christ in the form of a warrior as is seen in the Dream of the Rood faculty.uca.edu/~jona/texts/rood.htm

Sorry, no, I can’t picture Jesus as a warrior figure. Even if I indulge that mindset though, why would he carry a sword and shield? What could he possibly need them for, when by the smallest exercise of His will any enemy would fall?

Not the kind of sword and shield you see in movies.

One thing I know for sure and that is He who makes us His warrior.
12
For our struggle is not with flesh and blood but with the principalities, with the powers, with the world rulers of this present darkness, with the evil spirits in the heavens.
13 Therefore, put on the armor of God , that you may be able to resist on the evil day and, having done everything, to hold your ground.
14
So stand fast with your loins girded in truth, clothed with righteousness as a breastplate,
15
and your feet shod in readiness for the gospel of peace.
16
In all circumstances, hold faith as a shield, to quench all (the) flaming arrows of the evil one.
17
And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

It’s not hard to picture Christ as a warrior, as that’s how he’s portrayed in the 6th chapter of John’s Apocalypse:
And I saw: and behold a white horse, and he that sat on him had a bow, and there was a crown given him, and he went forth conquering that he might conquer.
The commentary on this verse from the Douay-Rheims Bible says:
“White horse”… He that sitteth on the white horse is Christ, going forth to subdue the world by his gospel. The other horses that follow represent the judgments and punishment that were to fall on the enemies of Christ and his church. The red horse signifies war; the black horse, famine; and the pale horse (which has Death for its rider), plagues or pestilence.

Jesus as a 5th-century Roman soldier, trampling upon a lion and a snake (cf. Psalm 91:13).

In the light of Revelation 19, yes:
11: Then I saw the heavens opened, and there was a white horse; its rider was (called) “Faithful and True.” He judges and wages war in righteousness.
12: His eyes were (like) a fiery flame, and on his head were many diadems. He had a name inscribed that no one knows except himself.
13: He wore a cloak that had been dipped in blood, and his name was called the Word of God.
14: The armies of heaven followed him, mounted on white horses and wearing clean white linen.
15: Out of his mouth came a sharp sword to strike the nations. He will rule them with an iron rod, and he himself will tread out in the wine press the wine of the fury and wrath of God the almighty.
16: He has a name written on his cloak and on his thigh, “King of kings and Lord of lords.”
While some may find this image of Jesus difficult, we need to remember that Jesus is, as C.S. Lewis puts it in the Chronicles of Narnia, ‘not a tame lion’. We should not overemphasize one side of God at the price of the other since God is BOTH mercy and justice.

Thus Jesus is both the gentle and meek Lamb of God who gave His life as a ransom for the many and the Lion of the tribe of Judah who will rule over the nations with a rod of iron and shatter them like a potter’s vessel.

In the scriptures, the members of the Trinity are imaged in various ways, all of which are human attempts to understand one or another aspect of our God. In my opinion most if not all of them are only some fraction of the reality. 🙂

definitely a spiritual warrior…

2 Cor 10:3-4
For though we walk in the flesh
we do not **war **after the flesh
for the weapons of our **warfare **are not carnal
but mighty through God
to the pulling down of strong holds

Matt 12:28-29
But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God
then the kingdom of God is come unto you
or else how can one enter into a strong man’s house
and spoil his goods
except he first bind the strong man
and then he will spoil his house

Correct. Since the Lord God is unfathomable, we could only try to express a fraction of an aspect of Him in our own limited way.

What I perceive as the problem, though, is focusing too much on and over-emphasizing one aspect of God while neglecting the other (for example, trying to emphasize the ‘mercy’ aspect of God while neglecting the ‘justice’ side or vice-versa). It would be like trying to focus on a small corner of a large painting while neglecting to view the work as a whole.

uncle wirraway was KIA in the Philippines in '42, I’m fairly sure Jesus shared the same foxhole.
