A evangelical told me being born of water and spirit (born again) couldn’t mean being baptized because baptized and baptism isn’t important does anyone have a response I could use biblical or historical
I showed him jimmy Akin’s book on early church fathers plus explained baptism of desire and myrtrdom. Along with the end of the book of mark when Peter talks

1Peter3:21 Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a clear conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Also, ask him why did Jesus commission the Apostles to go into the whole world baptizing if it has no meaning and does nothing? Just to get people wet? Jesus never commanded we do anything that wasn’t vitally important for our salvation.

*Acts 2:38 And Peter said to them, "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.*See other examples at ScriptureCatholic.

Along with the other quotes…

*I will sprinkle clean water upon you, and you shall be clean from all your uncleannesses, and from all your idols I will cleanse you. (Ezekiel 36:25)

He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. (Mark 16:16)

And now why do you wait? Rise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on his name.’ (Acts 22:16)

And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God. (1 Corinthians 6:11)*

Anyone who says that Baptism isn’t important clearly doesn’t read the Bible.
