I have read some approved apparitions by the Catholic Church, and based on the saints, both Jesus and Mary appear to be extremely beautiful.

Jesus appears to be 30 yrs old, and is very beautiful according to St. Faustina, and St. Catherine Anne Emmerich.

St. Bernadette, and three children at Fatima describe Mary as very young and beautiful.

The thought about Our Lord, and Our Mother to be very beautiful is beyond my understand.

When I look at beautiful women, they tend to give a sexual appeal, but Mary is different. She gives a great admiration of the femal beautiful without lust.

If you look at the beautiful people today, and compare them to Jesus and Mary, you find yourself trying to describe the beautiful of our Lord, and his Blessed Mother Mary.

So here is the challenge. Close your eyes and image how Jesus and Mary look like when we see them in Heaven (if we make ourselve worthy to earn it). Tell me how you would describe Our Lord, and His Blessed Mother?

I can’t. It is very difficult to imagine. I do acknowledge one thing, their beautiful must indeed surpass Bradd Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

you have put your finger on the difficulty. In a culture that reduces the standard of beauty whether of persons or things to “what I want, what appeals to my sensual pleasures” that is the response we would get to a statement: this person is beautiful. It says more about the corruption of our standards of beauty than it does about the authenticity of the visions you cite. Thomas Dubay addresses this corruption in some of his works.

Society view on beauty is indeed corrupted. The beautiful which God has intended for us to see is gone. I think these visions give us a chance to acknowledge how God intended us to look at things.

Jesus put it best. “Whoever looks at a woman with lust, has committed adultery in his heart.”

The purity of beauty is tainted by sin. God’s grace opens our mind and intellect to acknowledge true beauty from within as well as the physical.

Can you try to imagine how they look if you were to see Our Lord and Our Blessed Mother Mary?

“The Bible never gives any physical description of Christ. The closest thing we get to a description is in Isaiah 53:2b, “He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to Him, nothing in His appearance that we should desire Him.” All this tells us is that Jesus’ appearance was just like any other man’s – He was ordinary-looking. Isaiah was here prophesying that the coming suffering Servant would arise in lowly conditions and wear none of the usual emblems of royalty, making His true identity visible only to the discerning eye of faith.”

All of that said, Mary was a pure, holy, tough, sometimes sorrowful, wise Mother who was called on to keep many things in her heart, and who was also a Jewish woman at a certain time and place. I don’t think much of the traditional pious Catholic “art” of the 40’s - 60’s era that depicts her as a tall, slender, other-worldly, blonde Anglo-Saxon does her honor, nor do I find that image inspirational. There’s a church near me that has an unusual statue of Mary seated, as an older woman, strong and wise. I was moved by that in ways that many of the “traditional” images never did. In my view, Mary’s undoubted beauty transcends whatever cultural norm of “beauty” may exist in a particular culture at a particular time. Nor do I think she looked 18 or 20 her whole life.

How will Mary and Jesus look in heaven? I imagine it won’t be about appearances as we experience them now. Go to Adoration and be with Christ in silence, stillness, openness. Listen and love Him. That’s how Jesus will “look.”

Well, since Isaiah 53, in speaking about the coming Messiah, tells us " He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.", I think it’s clear that our modern tendency to equate virtue with physical beauty is mistaken. Jesus and Mary were undoubtedly beautiful, but in a way beyond what our eyes could discern. Nothing in scripture or early tradition makes mention of either being remarkable in appearance.

According to St. Theresa of Avila, who saw the glorified bodies of both Jesus and Mary, they have a supernatural beauty that cannot be compared to anything on this earth and is indescribable. You’ll just know it when you finally see it. She posited that all glorified bodies will have a beauty that cannot be expressed in mere natural language. 🙂

Since Jesus and Mary are both glorified… I believe that their beauty far exceed everyone elses.
