My first comment is that we don’t get our understanding of who Jesus was or who he thought he was from theology. We get it from Divine Revelation and from the teaching of the Magisterium. The CCC clearly teaches that Jesus clearly understood he was God. It teaches that the human nature of Jesus was assumed by the Second Person of the Trinity. The human nature of Jesus was thus entirely obedient to the Divine Nature and was fully conscious of being the Second Person of the Trinity. Jesus was the human manifestation of the Second Person of the Trinity and was fully aware at all times that he was God.

Secondly, be careful about reading theology. There is much danger there. 👍
 
Didn’t read the entire text (don’t have that kind of patience), but from what I did read it seems to me that the author is 1. thinking too hard and 2. coming from the wrong point of view to develop his conclusions.

Jesus was not a man who discovered he was God, Jesus is God, the Second Person of the Godhood, who lowered Himself to add a new nature to His being, that of man.

Reading between the lines regarding the Daniel image of the Son of Man sharing the throne with God, and the Wisdom literature regarding personified Wisdom with the Colossians scripture, and the I Corinth 8 scripture (to name a few) we seem to have a Judeo-Christian first century understanding which seems to be the basis of Tom Wright’s faith and of mine also.

God’s Spirit, God’s Word, God’s Law, God’s Presence, or Glory, and God’s Wisdom within Judaism and the OT is the only way to understand both the transcendence of God the Father, and His immanence through His Only-Begotten Son.

In addition, any attempt at understanding the appearance of Jesus Christ, as the Son of God in his NT divinity must not be separated from the OT montheism of Judaism along with the actual appearance of YHWH to the patriarchs and to Moses. Something which I think Mr. Wright was referring, when he spoke of the three angels who had visited Abraham.
