Hi all,

After viewing youtube videos (that I have discerned to be authentic) of people from different time periods, backgrounds, nationalities, and faiths talk about how Jesus appeared to them and their mystical experience, I realized that there is a common theme with all of them that I would like to share. Every time Jesus appears to someone who knows NOTHING about Him, he illuminates their consciences. Upon this illumination, 2/3 people listed below said that after seeing their sins, they realized that they deserve to die because the weight of sin is so crushing. However, that is always when Jesus steps in and shows his boundless love for the person. After this experience, the person realizes that we NEED Jesus.

It also made me realize how important it is to ask God to feel the weight of our sins so that we can feel truly sorry for them and turn to Him in a concrete way like they did.

Just an interesting thing I would like to share.

So the common pattern seems to be
  1. Jesus manifests himself in some way and identifies himself
  2. Illuminates the conscience. (Painful experience, person realizes he/she deserves death)
  3. Jesus reveals his boundless love and forgives said person.

(I think she is now a protestant, but she saw the sacred heart that shed blood and water like in st. faustina’s image. Felt the crushing weight of her sins).

If you take anything away from this, take this, ask God to FEEL for your sins. I think this could be essential in the spiritual life.

We see it in the New Testament too.

Look at the story about the samaritan woman at the well.
Jesus comes to her. He treats her with dignity and respect.
He lets her know who he is. He tells her “everything she has done”, but he does this in an interesting way. He does not shame her or condemn her. The whole story is about how he takes a certain path with just her in mind. Through threating her with such special attention and respect and teaching her about himself he creates in her the longing to be like him, be part of his kingdom and she goes and tells everyone about him.

I think the problem for many is that they / we loose sight of our need for salvation.

Thanks for this thread:)
