You didnt answer my question.

Would Jesus support a law that banned insulting people?
No, Jesus would not condone ridiculing someone else’s beliefs. But if those beliefs are contrary to the truth and furthermore threaten people’s lives, he would want them exposed as false!

We don’t ban people for exercising their freedom of speech, we just simply protest in a peaceful way, and yes, these protests do work! You may not hear about them, because we do not make a spectacle of ourselves in doing so.

As for Jesus’ supporting a law that banned insulting people? It would be a manmade law, and Jesus said give to Caesar what is Caesar and to God what is God’s! He therefore separated church and state. He would not support suppressing freedom of speech though.

Thanks to all those who replied.

And lastly, would you support a ban on insulting all religous leaders (including ones not of your own religion)? If no, why not. If yes, why? And is that your own opinion or one legislated by your religion.
Banning or censoring anything is not as uncomplicated as it sounds and can lead down a slippery slope. How can you ban one thing such as insults to religious leaders but not insults to politcal ones. Either way some one is offended. This type of censorship can be just as detrimental to you & I as to the thoughless media and cartoonist. When you curtail someones rights to speak there mind you set a precedent that allows them to stop you from doing what someone else finds offensive.

On the topic of “What Jesus would do” As Catholics we have already been instructed by both Jesus and his Vicar here on earth.

The thing is not everyone is catholic in the world and do not listen to the truth. As humans with free will God has given us the right to sin and we will all answer to him.

Peace!
