How does a Catholic become saved? How do you have Jesus as your Savior? I realized these topics weren’t covered in RCIA and homilies never address them. Thank you for thoughtful answers!
The phase “personal relationship with Jesus” is most often used by evangelical Protestants who disdain the idea that Christ established a Church to teach and minister in His name. We Catholic have a relationship with God through the sacraments and personal prayer. To go to Mass and refrain from servile work on Sundays and holy days
To go to Confession at least once a year (traditionally done during Lent)
To receive the Eucharist at least once a year, during the Easter Season (known as the “Easter duty”)
To observe the days of fasting and abstinence
To help to provide for the needs of the Church according to one’s abilities and station in life
To obey the marriage laws of the Church
We’re saved because Jesus died and rose for us, and through our baptism. How does a Catholic become saved? How do you have Jesus as your Savior? I realized these topics weren’t covered in RCIA and homilies never address them. Thank you for thoughtful answers!
I’m sorry, but I don’t understand what that has to do with my question. ?An offense against God is an infinite offense because he is infinite.
Only an infinite sacrifice can pay back the offense.
So Jesus who is God was sacrificed for our sake. Having taken up a human nature he became one of us and we all share in his sacrifice.
EWTN’s Father Goeschel has said that God could have said “You’re all redeemed” and we would be all redeemed. But it was better to bring about our salvation the way it was done.
How much spirituality would we have if we didn’t have to be spiritual to be saved?
