I found some commentary that is a bit deep for my pea brain but, everyone else will probably understand it.
The vine represents the Synagogue, according to Isaiah. The vine, or the vineyard of the Lord of hosts, is the house of Israel. Of this vine Christ drank for some time; and though many of the branches were becoming useless, there were yet many that still brought forth fruit. But Christ now going to His passion, declares that it would be no longer acceptable to Him, since the figures were now to pass into reality.

If there was only more I think I could see things a bit clearer. If anyone can find more on this verse ( that is, if this is the verse in question, if it isn’t, my bad ) I would be interested.
I believe this is a verse used by our separated brethren to try & prove the Eucharist is just saltines & welches.
