Speaking to a friend, and I she believes that Jesus was in fact black. Which I don’t have an issue with, but I don’t see how he would be?
I’ll be glad to. But I can only deal with Actual Facts. First, Jesus is a Black Man. If you need to find his description in the Bible, let me know. Second, he was a upright man meaning he didn’t deviate from the straight path of GOD. So, one must be very careful when they claim to be of Jesus. Christian means to be crystallized in Christ. And don’t forget that he’s coming back with a sword dripping with blood!!
Also she gave me her other thoughts on Jesus,

any thoughts?

What does it matter what race he was while on Earth? The fact still remains that He is God, He died for our sins and was raised up on the 3rd day so that we may crucify our flesh so He may give life to our souls through His Ultimate Sacrifice.

However, I personally believe Jesus looked like the Palestinians of today. As did Mary. I think the Black Madonna of Czestochowa is an actual portrait, only the paint got darker over time. As such, our Mother looked like that (and consequently Christ Himself did as well since He only had one person to get His genes from) only lighter.

I believe Mary looked like this:

Picture Christ like that, only male.

I couldn’t agree more what color Jesus was, agreed. My question was where in the bible would it say this? Just wanted to see if anyone has had a conversation like this.

I also agree I think he looked more like Palestinian of today, but Just curious on how one would come to a conclusion he was black, or any other race?

A common verse I hear is Revelations 1:14 where some people read it as “His (Jesus’) hair was like wool”, making Him black because of the implied hair texture. But in my Bible and in every Bible I’ve seen, it reads “His hair was white like wool”, which gives no indication to what race He was.

There is absolutely no physical description of Jesus in the Bible.

His skin colour anyway would make no difference. However, as he was a Jew he would have the typical appearance of the Jewish people living there.

Brown hair and blue eyes? 😃

Jesus was born of a Jewish mother and He would have looked like any other in his village. I do remember a verse in the Bible talking about His looks, unfortontaly I can not remember the book or the verse. I also have a problem with typing and spelling so please forgive me.
I would encourage you to look up the Madonna of Czestochowa on the web … there is an interesting article which will answer some of your questions.

😛

There has been a lot of mixing of the races over these past 2,000 years. I expect that Jesus would have been dark-skinned with dark eyes and dark hair, with the features of a Jewish man. Since he would have had no European blood in him, he would not have been like the light-skinned Jews of today, but at the same time, he also would not have had African facial features. His hair would also have been straight.

first ask her to find those quotes in the bible, especially the word “crystallized” as the definition of baptism, which I very much doubt is in there. Then ask her what she means by “black”. Dark skinned? of African ancestry? The first is possible, the latter impossible. Jesus was a first century Jew born in Judea, in what was Palestine up to 1948, now Israel. That is not Africa. Period. Do not even waste time with people who do not give reliable sources for their claims and insist they adhere to proper rules of discussion by providing same.

Incidentally, in another thread someone posted that her Italian grandfather insisted Mary was Ethiopian. . . .

But no, Mary was of the tribe of Judah, so Jesus was certainly “semitic” looking.

At the same time, it is interesting and not insignificant that people all over the world have rendered paintings/icons/sculptures in which Our Lady and the Lord look - like the people creating the art. And when Juan Diego’s tilma was imprinted with the image of the Blessed Virgin, she looks - like a pregnant Aztec teenager (not like a Spanish maiden - the image of the conquered, not the conqueror).

Thanks be to God - The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and the Incarnation is good news which shall be to ALL people!

Your thinking of Isaiah where it mentions that his appearance is such that it makes you turn your head away? It was a prophecy of him on the Crucifix if I remember correctly, but it doesnt actually say anything about hair, skin color, complexion, etc.

Perhaps it was Isaiah 53, where He is said to not have looks like make Him stand out.

If Jesus was black, would it make a difference? Jesus is the son of God.
However, the Bible teaches Jesus was a Jew. (Hebrew)
Jesus was not black.

Speaking more with her, I don’t understand why its a big deal is Christ was Black or not. I personally believe he wasn’t, but so what?

Christ died for us, fulfilled the scriptures. Nothing changes!

She is a Muslim, have nothing against (of course) and who is very influenced by Louis Farrakhan.

Don’t know that much on Louis Farrakhan.

It doesn’t matter to me as well. However, take this from me (a black person): Jesus was not black. He was a Jew, and the Bible shows He was born from a Jewish mother, Mary. Yes, there were Ethiopian Jews during those times, but Mary did not come from an Ethiopian family. People living in the region are fairly dark in complex, but not a black person.

🤷

Now I am told Adam and Eve were black?

Thank you for the insight!

I’ve never seen a “black” person. Some very, very dark brown, but never truly black.
There is only one “race”, it’s the human race. We are all one race.
You may have blue eyes while another has green, does this make two different races? Silly names to separate us.
My favorite was “in the old days” speaking of “colored” people. Colored? Doesn’t everyones skin contain some color? Actually europeans have more colors.
