Hello,

**We are supposed to receive Jesus’ Blood every Sabbath, right?

Because, i’v been only receiving the Eucharist every Sabbath, & it’s recently came to my attention: “Unless you eat my flesh & drink my blood, you shall not have eternal life”

…If we do not receive Jesus’ blood on the Sabbath (say purposely), then we would be committing sin like if we didn’t receiving the Eucharist, right?

The Faithful need to receive as often as the Church directs, which is once a year during the Easter season, and in receiving under either form one receives the entire, whole complete sacramental substantial presence of Christ, Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity. The priest must receive under both forms in each and every celebration of the Eucharist. There is nothing in the passage referred to which binds the lay faithful to receive at each and every Sunday Mass.

When we receive only the Host we do receive the risen Jesus (his body, blood, soul, and divinity). The same is true if we receive only from the chalice. Either way, we are receiving both his body and blood because we receive all of him under either form.

Your instructor should have explained this to you before you received your first communion. You aren’t required to receive communion every Sunday. If you should every be guilty of committing a mortal sin (may God preserve you from that), you must not receive communion until you have confessed it. But what a blessing that we can receive him often, even daily!

1. The sabbath is a Jewish observance: “The seventh day of the week among the Hebrews, the day being counted from sunset to sunset, that is, from Friday evening to Saturday evening.” (source is New Advent). Christians worship on Sunday, “the Lord’s day”, in celebration of Christ’s resurrection.
2. Christ is fully present – body, blood, soul, and divinity – in the Precious Body in the appearance of bread. And Christ is fully present – body, blood, soul, and divinity – in the Precious Blood in the appearance of wine. If you partake of only the Eucharist (the Precious Body), you are receiving Christ’s body and blood. If you partake of only the Precious Blood, you are receiving Christ’s body and blood. This is because Christ is resurrected. He is the living, glorified Christ who is whole and entire: body, blood, soul, and divinity.
3. One of the precepts of the Church (or in other words, our duties as a Catholic) is to receive the Eucharist at least once a year. But this is the bare minimum. We are commanded by the 3rd Commandments to “Keep holy the Lord’s day”. So, we must attend Mass every Sunday else we sin. But we are not required to receive the Eucharist at each Mass we attend. We are encouraged to receive, of course, if we are in a state of grace. But it is not a sin to not receive the Eucharist at Mass.

And taking points 2 and 3 together, it is not a sin to receive only the Precious Body or only the Precious Blood.

The Precious Blood in the Chalice is JUST as much the Eucharist as the consecrated host.

BOTH can be, and should be, called the Eucharist.
