Jesus Calling series by Sarah Young

Anyone else enjoy these books? I realize they are written by a Protestant author, but I haven’t found anything anti-Catholic in them. They seem to reflect upon a scripture and give a short meditation as if Jesus were speaking to the reader. Obviously these are not truly Jesus speaking, but again they seem to be helpful to me in my time of pain right now. Other’s thoughts?

I’m a bit wary about the idea of putting your own words into the mouth of Jesus, but I suppose The Imitation of Christ did it a long time earlier, so there’s an honourable precedent.

It’s funny that I would see this particular thread today when I had just checked out that very book at the store! I had just picked it up to check the size of the print,** but while I was at it I also read the page for today. My first thoughts on it were that it was easily read and the information was simple and to the point. Protestant or Catholic didn’t come into it. As to putting words in Jesus mouth, to be honest, I missed that part. I just read the selection and pondered it a little. I would have purchased it in a minute if I had had the money to do so! My advice would be that if it ministers to your heart, then it was placed in your path that day for that very reason!

**I think the premise of this book was that it was a spin off on a book that circulated years ago entitled, “God Calling,” and it was done by “two listeners” who lived in the UK. ** Their messages spoke to me in deep way and it ministered to me for years!

So, just accept this book (Jesus Calling) as God’s gift to you at this particular time.
