I have just read a book from Amazon, Jesus Christ and Homosexuality Does He Really Care? by Andrew M. Joseph and I saw some recommendations that are Catholic, which I was thinking about. The author does not talk about Catholicism as such nor does he state that he is a Catholic. However, there is a section where, among other issues, he states that praying the Rosary ceaselessly, and saying Novenas, with faith and intention, can deliver one from homosexuality as well as masturbation, among other things. I think I support him.

I find it true that reciting rosary and novena Delivers us from masturbating. I know this because i have experienced it 😃

There’s a girl who first was sexually attracted to both guys and girls, but since she became religious, she prays a lot, her desire to be closer to God grew bigger, that she overwon from her bisexuality.

Yes, Jesus cares about homosexuality. The curse can be cured.

Do you mean deliver one from participating in homosexual activity, an active “gay” lifestyle, or do you mean deliver one from having the inherent predisposition toward same sex attraction?

I think we could expand upon the point and simply say that recitation of the rosary can help with any issues of chastity. Our Holy Mother wants us to be chaste in our thoughts, deeds, and actions. Seeking her help, will help us with all issues of chastity, I believe.

Yes you’re right! Ever since i started to recite rosary daily, i became aware of my bad behaviors, i became calmer, more obedience, i also got guidances. She’s our Holy Mother after all, respecting Her teaches me to respect my earthly mother and my relationship with my (earthly) mother gets better every day 🙂 (if you knew me, you would know how bad my relationship was with my mom).

God bless!

Say “firm” predisposition. It’s not clear whether it’s inherent, i.e. genetic.

I agree that this is an important question for the posters who claim that prayer can “heal homosexuality”.

👍

I believe Jesus can"heal" anything which contradicts His nature. But Jesus has a human nature also. These things from our human nature which contradict His Spiritual nature are a burden we bare. If He wills that we bare it without participating in it, then that is how He wishes for us to give Him glory.

We can pray for this miracle, but true prayer must always be done ready to accept God’s will. Remember Paul had a “thorn in his side” from the devil, which he asked the Lord to remove. Jesus replied,“My grace is sufficient for you.”

To imitate Paul would be to participate in the struggles against the flesh for the sake of Jesus, both Him alone, and His mystical body of the Church.

Well said.

Hmm, can one “pray the straight away?”

It’s absolutely insulting and offensive to think that one can “pray the gay” away. It’s also wrong to call homosexuality a “curse.” One thing we as Catholics/Christians MUST accept and realize is that a very large and growing part of the world and country believe there is nothing wrong with being Gay. We must continue to love, respect and accept all human beings rather than finding other ways to alienate and discriminat between us.

Why would that be insulting or offensive? Perhaps it is false. But there’s nothing insulting or offensive about it, unless one considers same-sex attraction to be a trait that is good in itself.

I speak as a person who experiences same-sex attraction.

I disagree with this since I a Catholic, Gay and Celibate

As you have done against all those Catholics who disagree with your personal opinion on the morality of homosexuality.

There is no love and affirming somebody’s grievous sin

There should be no reason to post this, yet I feel compelled.

2358 The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. **They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. **These persons are called to fulfill God’s will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord’s Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition.

Just because someone has the natural tendancies of homosexuality, doesn’t mean it was given them by God. It means our corrupt nature was made so through our first parents sin and fall from grace.

We all have this nature which we are at war with. Even our nature itself is in conflict with itself! Yet Lutherans don’t see it this way. They see our nature as completely corrupt with no ability to reach up to God for His salvation.

An honest holy prayer to be released from the stronghold of homosexual desire is not in itself confessing that the tendancy has caused them to sin. But it’s like in the Lord’s prayer asking God to lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. It is not God’s doing that all have a corrupt nature. But it is God’s will that we depart from evil whether from within our nature or demonic influences.

Yes!!! It makes me more nutty than usual when I read that it is possible to"pray away the gay". I was born straight and can’t imagine praying my"straight" away. Yes, I understand that in order to believe as I do then you must also subscribe to the theory or fact that humans are born with a specific sexual orientation. Does anyone really think that a person would choose to be gay, especially in societies where gay people can be executed just for being gay?

So you don’t think God can restore your sexual orientation to what He created it to be?

I was never created to be straight. I experienced severe depression and suicidal ideation because of thought currents like this in hetero-normative societies (ours included, and most certainly the Catholic Church) that assume heterosexual orientation on all people.

Imagine for a minute that we lived in a predominately homosexual society and you were straight…How insulting is it for you to hear someone ask you to just try harder, just pray harder Johnny and you too can restore yourself to what God created you to be.

This forum sometimes! Geeze! :banghead:

Why would you? The Church does not take a stance on the basis of an individual’s sexual orientation, or whether it can be changed.
