Can we be forgiven for Mortal Sins through Jesus Christ, without the Sacrament of Reconcilliation?

While we are bound by the sacraments, God is not. Assuming you know that you need the sacrament of reconciliation, you cannot refuse it and be saved.

In another thread, you mentioned the possibility of dying in a state of mortal sin before you get a chance to confess. In that case repentance and the intent to do what you know is right (confess) would be sufficient.

So how would I be saved if Im on an Island (yup im going back to my crazy scenarios) with full consent that I need to go get absolution…but theres no priest there.

See above quote. That answers your question. I think, in this island situation, God would be reasonable.

One thing you need to remember is that the Church never asks the impossible of anybody. DianJo has the idea.

One point, with all Charity - don’t play russian roulette with your immortal soul. Struggle for purity, and Pray for His Love and Mercy to envelope you. Pray, Pray, Pray.

While one CAN be forgiven a mortal sin through making a perfect act of contrition (though one cannot know for sure if he or she has actually made a PERFECT act), the ordinary course to follow is confession to your priest.

The desert island and the sudden death on the way to confession are exceptions, not the rule.

I’d be more concerned to try to follow the ordinary regular teachings and laws than to look for “loopholes”, exceptions, and one-in-a-million “what-if” situations. . . 😃

Why would God put you on an island if He knew you were to confess and repent?
