Jesus didn't say eat pork.

Not that we’re the slow crowd or anything, but it hit me this morning: WHY do the farmers flush out the pig with Drano? What are they flushing out of the pig?

To recognize the difference between the Old and New is not heresy!
That’s not what I said.
Do you follow the other laws in the OT? Do you still feel adultery should get the death penalty?
That was under a theocracy. The wages of sin is death on the judgment day.
Do you make sure not to wear clothing made of mixed materials?
That was symbolic.
If vegan dieys are so healthy then why do doctors not reccommend the diet for pregnant or nursing women, or for infants.
Show us where they do that.
Quit trying to push you views.
I told you, several times now, that I love pork chops. So, obviously a vege diet isn’t my view.
So stop trying to persuade the rest of us to your diet.
See previous.
It is really no concern of yours what anyone else eats.
So, if I see you about to eat the poisonous mushroom I shouldn’t say anything? Aren’t you concerned about your neighbors well-being? I didn’t start this thread, you know.

Then my dad’s boss who was a chemical engineer told them about a project he had done at school on the internal workings of a pig. When he got done they decided to eat somewhere else.
I know all about the internal workngs of pigs having particiapted in the slaughter and gutting of thousands of them. I love Ribs. Usually have them once a week.

No one has yet addressed how the human body is constructed for food digestion, except for the teeth. When I was in college studying biology (I have a minor in it) and in Nursing School, we were taught that the length of the intestine is what determines what an animal eats. Herbivores have long intestines because plant food is more difficult to digest; carnivores have short intestines, and the human being, like bears, have an intermediate length intestine, making us omnivores, designed to eat both plant and animal matter.

Now it appears that the Creator intended human beings to eat both plants and animals, why are we arguing about his design? If one wants to be a vegetarian as their own preference, fine, but don’t try to make it a religious thing and try to say we should only be eating vegetables, because that is at cross purposes with the design of the human body, created by God.

As far as unsafe food, cases of trichinosis and listeria and mad cow disease are rare in developed countries, that’s why they showcase them on such shows as Medical Mystery (I saw that show too), whereas E Coli is a common bacteria that can contaminate both plant and animal food and water, and the most widespread cases recently have come from contaminated vegetables. In other words, you are more likely to get sick with E coli from eating your salad than getting trichinosis or listeria from your meat, and the EColi infection can kill you more quickly.

One has to use some common sense and not become sensationalist and scare yourself and others with some exotic disease that most physicians will never encounter in a lifetime of practice in this country, when the real danger of food-borne illness might just be on the fingers of someone’s unwashed hands or veggies or improperly cooked meat right in home and restaurant kitchens across the country.

Usually the people on tv who tell people not to eat this or that meat, not to mix this or thar food, not to drink this or that at night or in the morning, and who happen to have their life centered on getting power and illumination from food are new agers.🤷

If Godf “intended” us to eat meat from the git-go then why didn’t He say so at Creation?

Genesis 1:29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

Perhaps instead, He planned ahead and knew that man would desire to eat meat?

It’s always “rare” till it happens to you or someone who know. Kind of like defining when unemployment is too high.

I just found out that mad cow disease killed over 200 people, including several in Spain. I had heard that CJD can also be found in deer and has killed some hunters here in the US. I wonder how many wnet unrecorded or mis-diagnosed.

God certainly knew what He was doing and had our best interests at heart. He wasn’t a sensationalist and urged people to use common sense:

Ezekiel 33:19 But if the wicked turn from his wickedness, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall live thereby.

Usually the people on tv who tell people not to eat this or that meat, not to mix this or thar food, not to drink this or that at night or in the morning, and who happen to have their life centered on getting power and illumination from food are new agers.
That was somewhat the problem the believers at Colossae faced. Ascetics came in and told them not to eat on the feast days and new moon so as to gain a closer experience with God.

Estimates of Future Human Death Toll From Mad Cow Disease Vary Widely By Sandra Blakeslee
Published: October 30, 2001 in The New York Times

The human form of mad cow disease may peak at 100 cases per year in Britain and kill no more than a few thousand people in coming decades, according to new estimates from a highly respected group of epidemiologists in London.

But other leading experts who study the disease say that these numbers are based on overly optimistic assumptions. They say more than 100,000 people may die from the disease in the next several decades. …

No, I don’t think Jesus said to eat pork, but he probably did not say to not eat it either.
I had an occasion to chat with a Conservative rabbi who told me that, as one of these posts suggested, pork became vorboten for the Jewish people, not as a religious thing but for health reasons; he said they had not discovered exactly what the problem was, nor had they learned that fully cooking the pork would render the parasite harmless.

He said not to call unclean what He calls clean.

If meat is good enough for Jesus, it is good enough for me.
Fish and lamb. But, who knows how often?

Side-bar: I tried the line “Christ ate fish” on a lady friend who was a pure vegetarian (I’m not even close) and the look I got told me that that argument wasn’t going to fly!

We’re really on the slow team: how many pig farmers use the Drano? If not all, why not?

The text doesn’t identifiy the speaker beyond “God.” Secondly, He was talking about the “common” being cleaned, not the unclean.

only pork or the rest of the prohibited food as well?

All the unclean foods are considered unhealthy to eat.

we don’t know how often but they were good enough for Him. And knowing that Jesus stressed the original plan of God, it’s fair to conclude that vegetarianism wasn’t on His mind, and since pork prohibition wasn’t “in the begining”, and “do not call unclean what i call clean”, the picture is clear. Who are we to call unclean what He calls clean?

since pork prohibition wasn’t “in the begining”,
We have no proof of that.
Who are we to call unclean what He calls clean?
Who and not what is exactly the point of Peter’s vision. BTW, God said “common” not “unclean.”

Acts 10:15 Acts 10:15 … What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.

Acts 10:28 … God hath shewed me that I should not call any man (not food) common or unclean.

God didn’t EVER say the Jews could only eat lamb at Passover, fer crying out loud. Or any other food - there was no such thing as a food that was only permitted to be eaten at certain seasons, foods were either banned outright or not banned at all.

And remember what the Lord His own self sent to the Israelites when they were starvig in the desert - He sent manna (bread) and quails (birds), didn’t he, not carrots and tofurkey  If it’s good enough for Him it surely must be good enough for you.

I would avoid eating pork. I would also avoid eating deep fried foods, most snack foods, and to much red meat.
Actually after I knew Jesus, I have no heart of wasting animal soul for my stomach anymore.:imsorry:
I’ve substantially reduced my beef consumption to around one meal per month, and I’m thinking of completely eliminating that (i.e., becoming vegetarian) one day. :shamrock2:

Well, fer cring out loud, I didn’t say that He did. I asked “How often [did Jesus eat fish and lamb]?”
He sent manna (bread) and quails (birds), didn’t he, not carrots and tofurkey
The people didn’t ask for vege’s–they wanted meat like they ate while in slavery in Egypt. Besides, its hard to teach a carrot to walk.

the majority of food illnesses are from vegatables.
Can you direct us to the scientific study that shwoed that? It would be interetsing reading–especially if they compared farmed raised animals vs corporate farms, native grown vs. imports, etc…
