(1 Corinthians 10:23-24):
Everything is permissible"—but not everything is beneficial. “Everything is permissible”—but not everything is constructive. Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others.

So if I think that pork is not constructive and could cause disturbance for others (Muslims and other religions) then I will not eat it (even though that it is permissible for me to do so), and that applies to the wine also…

Well Sam, I’ve asked this question to muslims many a times and have not received an answer.

These muslim pride themselves on not eating the piggy just like the Jews, and they make sure they throw the word Jew in there.

It’s ONLY Christians who eat the little piggy.

Well, according to Leviticus, Jews also don’t eat other things but muslims do.

You know, like the camel & hare & lizard… A Jew will never eat this but muslims do.

And for the life of me, I never understood why in the Garden of Eden, God didn’t say… stay away from the Tree of Knowledge and also those little piggies…

Those pigs existed and all of the sudden Leviticus dietary laws come around and now the pig is forbidden… why wasn’t it forbidden from the very beginning - why did God place these foods on Earth only to take them away with Leviticus…

I don’t get it…

My sister in Christ jakasaki :),

For your first question, yes I admit, Muslims should give some respect to the Jews and abstain from eating camels, lizards, etc (even if that wasn’t in Islam). I think that is one of the main topics those religious dialogues we hear from time to time should concentrate on, because simply if we start by agreeing on the food, all of us (all religions) will not loss any faith principle by doing it, which would take us to the next level of bridging the gaps.

As for your second question, I understand from the Bible that GOD’s plan wasn’t including eating meat in Paradise (all vegetarians).

In Paradise:
(Genesis 1:29)

"Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.”

On earth during Noah times:
(Genesis 9:3)

“Everything that lives and moves will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything.”

No, you are right, those Muslims handling pork or wine are sinning per this hadith:

Sunan Abu-Dawud, Book 26, Number 3666:
The Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) said: Allah has cursed wine, its drinker, its server, its seller, its buyer, its presser, the one for whom it is pressed, the one who conveys it, and the one to whom it is conveyed.

thank you. so are they given a pass on this, because they are wearing sanitary gloves? i know that if a muslim cannot complete the daily prayers because of time or work constraints, they are allowed to combine prayers. peace 🙂

There is something dead & wrong with bringing up dead threads from 2 years ago…

why not start a new thread…??? and link this one to it…

and why not stop by the introduce yourself first…???

and why not post your religion in your profile… (if there is any)…?
I did a Google search in regard to the issue and it brought me to this web site. I looked at the comments on display and considered your comment to be thought-provoking. I then joined the site in order to leave a reply.

I am simply someone who cares about truth and I sometimes trip and fall trying to find it, but I still consider it to be a worthy search.

I apologize for my ignorance in regard to custom and protocol. I do not typically comment.

Jesus didn’t ate pork because when He lived, He had not yet fulfilled what the Scriptures said, but when He died and resurrected, it was done. And then in the Acts of the Apostles, Peter has his vision…

God bless
Matthew 5 Verse 17 and 18.

Think not that I have come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill.

For verily I say to unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

Perhaps our assumptions about the word “all” are incorrect. Maybe “all” will not be fulfilled until heaven and earth pass or at least until the wheat is separated from the chaff.

Luke 21 Verses 25 through 28:

And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. And when these these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.

Luke 21 Verses 32 and 33:

Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled. Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.

I think pork is bad for the body no matter how many studies say if you cook it properly it’s fine. I avoid most meats anyway but do not condemn those who have no problem eating it.

I’ve tried pork in various forms and cannot stand the taste of it. Even very expensive honey smoked ham, and it tastes like “swill” to me. LOL

To each his own.

Food scientists generally believe that the historical prohibition was simply an effort to prevent parasites - in particular trichinosis. However, the list of prohibited foods is extensive. It’s not just a recognition that uncooked pork can cause problems. Old testament laws required meat to be cooked well done. So why the prohibition, when cooking practices, in themselves, solved the problem? Anyway, different scriptures lead to different conclusions, but not everything can be true. Either what you eat matters to God or it doesn’t. Which is it?

When he told them that God said it was unclean they laughed and poo-pooed.
THey were right. We are not beholden to the dietary laws of the Old Testament.
I am no mans judge to say they were right or wrong but if anyone here believes in the book of romans they would consider not eating or eating anything for the glory of G-d is right and very good thing.

As for your believing they are right in their treatment of this man laughing i am different.

In my eyes respecting yours they made a joke about a devotion.

May G-d have mercy on us all

I have read many posts here now.

I am not good with quoting scripture so i cant show you but can only share what i brought from my heart.

I have no right to tell someone who does not eat for the glory of G-d they are wrong.

I have no right to tell people who do eat things for the glory of G-d they are wrong.
I would understand Christians don’t put obstacle between me and G-d thats what satan does.

I believe originally man was allowed vegetables but latter permission was given to eat animals.

Like some posters here i dont like eating meat for my pleasure if the animals life was not good.

If i needed the food i would so i could live to the glory of G-d despite the animals life was not good.

I am very fussy with what meat i eat but for being your guest. If you invite me i will tell you kindly before that i dont eat pork.

I used to eat pork and i Amen you all that say its yummy, I miss it.

The law was not bad and it is not bad or wrong only the way we as humans have held it without mercy and fair consideration of others.

If you believe it is good for you to eat or not eat for the glory of G-d i will encourage you.

The new testimonial teaches me that while Christians are not under the law they are growing a heart for the law.

What good will the NT do a man if he picks it up to tell those living in all or part of the law are wrong.

If one believes in the NT they would see who is potential at harm in light of it is not waht goes in but comes out that makes a man who he will be.

G-d bless ya all

Of course not, they are sinning with or without gloves.
wow! so i guess its ok to sin, if you are making enough money then? lol! that the way it seems to me anyhow. its interesting though. i wonder how they would react if i brought this up to them. i cant though. they are very good host in this country. i have met people from all over the middle east here. loving it. looking forward to winter though. the 120 130 degree days can be rough. how hot does it get in saudi arabia? Peace 🙂

If I may make a blind post, the title of the thread and the argument presented in the OP kind of fit into the “declaration fallacy.” Jesus likewise never said “Eat macaroni and cheese,” yet that doesn’t mean I have to abstain from it. 🤷

If anything, our Lord condemned such thinking.

After he had left the crowd and entered the house, his disciples asked him about this parable. “Are you so dull?” he asked. “Don’t you see that nothing that enters a man from the outside can make him ‘unclean’? For it doesn’t go into his heart but into his stomach, and then out of his body.” (In saying this, Jesus declared all foods “clean.”)

He went on: “What comes out of a man is what makes him ‘unclean.’ For from within, out of men’s hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside and make a man ‘unclean.’” [Mark 7:17-23; ESV]

Thanks for posting that. That is the scripture that addresses the issue and it clearly states that the things that defile us are the evil things that come out of our heart and not the food that we consume. However, to say that the food doesn’t matter is to suggest that Moses was just making things up and I don’t think that Jesus meant to suggest that, so it’s probably wiser to take the more restrictive view. The food does matter as Moses stated, but it is the evil that comes out of our heart that actually defiles us.

There’s nothing with fasting. I certainly don’t take the opposite spectrum that says fasting in and of itself is bad. Fasting, when done right, can build our strength and help tame our flesh, just as Paul mentions at times in his epistles.

It’s those who say fasting justifies ourselves somehow, and that eating some foods condemn us, who are likewise in error. It’s not what lies in the stomach but in the heart that will be looked at by God on the day of judgment. 🙂
