This is probably a silly topic to talk about, but I wonder what some folks take on it is. As we understand human genetics, male and female supply 23 chromosomes each and humans have 46 chromosomes. Now my question is what would Jesus’ other 23 chromosomes be (besides Mary’s). Did God create 23 chromosomes specific for Jesus, or is other half of his genetic code also from Mary (which would parthenogenesis, something observed in fishes and reptiles, but not mammals)?
 
All of Jesus’s genetics–bloodtype and DNA–came from His mother Mary.
 
For Jesus to be a descendant of David and thus the King and Messiah, His Y DNA would have had to come from King David. The genealogies of Jesus in Luke 3 and Matthew 1 don’t bare this out.
 
That would make Jesus a woman since Mary can’t give her offspring the male Y DNA. She doesn’t possess it.

If, as you state, His DNA came entirely from Mary He would be identical to Mary. That clearly wasn’t the case.

I wouldn’t even offer a guess about His genetics.
 
Jesus’ genetics are central to the Catholic faith. He must be a descendant of David through King Solomon (not Nathan as per Luke 3) to be the Jewish Messiah. Clearly this is what the Gospel writers tried to show, but they didn’t know about the male Y DNA.
 
Thank you for the website. However, a Kingship must be descendant form bloodline -not adoption. An adopted son can inherit possessions, but not a Throne. It bloodline determined, no?

This is one of the reasons Jews reject Jesus as the Messiah. According to Jewish ideas the Messiah must have a patrilineal relationship with King David.
 
Exactly! So how can we know that Jesus is a descendant of King David? It’s not in the Gospels. That would make the Jewish faith the one true faith, wouldn’t it?
 
Doesn’t Mary carry her mother’s mtDNA? Not her father Heli’s. How could she carry her father’s Y-DNA. Besides the Jews claim that the lineage must go through David’s son King Solomon -not through Nathan. Luke 3 has Nathan. So Jesus still doesn’t fit the requirements oif the Jewish Messiah.

Would the XXY chromozones make her normal? Would she be blemished or perhaps a hermaphrodite?

Your reasoning seems to be based on the fact that Mary had to be a descendant of David. This is not proven and needs not be proved. It is enough that Joseph, the legal father of Jesus, be a descendant of David.

As for the rest, the incarnation is a miracle, and it is vain to look for scientific explanations.

Well, I was asking not necessary to prove anything, just some innocent spectulation. The incarnation is indeed a miracle and cannot be denied. However, since Jesus is fully human (in addition to fully God), therefore he has 46 chromosomes, my question is where the 23 came from, are they from God, specially created, or do they come from Mary in what is scienitifically would be a case of parthenogenesis which is observed in some lower animals but not humans. BTW, parthenogensis (which means virgin births) in komodo dragons, a lone female can spawn a male even though she is a female, now reptilians genetics are much different than mammals but the idea that a sole female can spawn a male isn’t outside of the realm of possibility.
 
In order for the Catholic position to be correct, we must show that Jesus is the Descendant of David through King Solomon. Neither Matthew nor Luke shows this to be the case. The logical conclusion is naturally that we are still awaiting the Jewish Messiah until someone can show that Jesus is the long awaited Messiah- a Descendant of King David. It’s a matter of faith is not good enough these days. It’s not silly at all!

We don’t know. God did not choose to reveal the interior biological processes that took place within Mary. (We do know that the only human source in the conception of Our Lord, was Mary.)

What God did reveal is that “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you.”
