I had an aweful Christmas and it just drudges up all the hurt and disappointment and lonliness that is ongoing in my marriage. Jesus, I want so much to please you and be a joyful disciple for you and make you proud, but I feel like I am literally drowning in sorrow. I feel absolutely worthless.

I swore that I was going to keep the details of the weekend to myself, not b/c sharing them would tarnish DH’s reputation, but b/c of pride. I blabbed to the loud mouth at work, I just couldn’t keep it to myself. But why do I bother, I feel as if nobody really cares. I know that it isn’t that people don’t care, but it’s more how do you respond to someone’s complaint about marital problems? I think I just do it to make myself feel worse about everything. Then I get mad at the people I bear my soul to for not caring and not doing anything to fix the situation (which is unfair and unreaslistic). And yet the people who would be most appropriate to share my heart with are the people I’m most ashamed to share with.

My heart and my mind are so bombarded with heartache, I am literally tongue-tied for small talk. It’s all I can do to hold it together at work till I can get away and hide out at home away from the world. My heart is like stone and I cannot muster a smile for a single soul in the world, not even my sweet children. I am so unkind and uncharitable, I just want to keep to myself.

JLCecilia,

You are not alone this Christmas. This season can bring out the best in some people and in others it can make them feel miserable. I pray that you will have some joy that comes with the season and take some time to remember the better part of your marriage (the happier moments) and the blessings that you have been given throughout your life.

I am praying for you …

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now, and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Praying for you to meet with a good, holy priest for his help in your sorrow. May you come to have peace in your heart, the peace of God the world can not give. May you ask God for his love every day and receive a big portion of it. Amen.

PATER NOSTER,
qui es in caelis,
sanctificetur nomen tuum.
Adveniat regnum tuum.
Fiat voluntas tua, sicut in caelo et in terra.
Panem nostrum quotidianum da nobis hodie,
et dimitte nobis debita nostra
sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris.
Et ne nos inducas in tentationem,
sed libera nos a malo. Amen.

As long as I’ve seen your posts in these forums, you have been struggling against high odds. If you feel worn out and discouraged sometimes, or often, I’m not surprised. If it’s any help you’re welcome to PM me to let off steam any time…but I imagine you do feel that not much will help at present.
May the Lord embrace you.
Love, and prayers, Trishie

I feel for you, OP.

I too have had a ****** Christmas. It seems like no matter what I do or don’t do, my mom’s unhappy with it. Why can’t I stay at home?, she laments. Well, for starters, I don’t want any more stuff placed on my shoulders that shouldn’t be there. The fact my mom has a drinking problem doesn’t help things and even exacerbates the problems. It’s the dinosaur in the room, no one will acknowledge it, but it is still there. But no one seems to care about little ole me since I’m the preacher’s kid and in PK families (at least my mom’s mind) appearances are everything, and no one will listen to me anyways. Everything seems OK, so therefore it is OK in my family. No, it’s not, and it hasn’t been for a good long time. Verbal and emotional abuse primarily, and it isn’t limited to my mom, though she’s the instigator most times. Tonight was no exception. I’m more than ready to move out (I’m of age, have been for almost a decade) but since I had a stroke in '94 it seems I’m still a teenager in my mom’s eyes so therefore I can’t move out (that and I’m a convert). My sister’s no help either. She claims she’s helping but she seems to be of the mindset to just stick it out, no matter the cost. I just can’t pretend anymore, it’s way too painful. I need prayers as much as the OP right now. New Year’s Eve should be celebratory, but it’s the same old stuff. I just can’t do it anymore.
