This is what confuses me the most. Its known that Jesus was God on earth in flesh, but what i cant understand is that many times Jesus was praying to God, or on the cross he asked God to forgive them for their sins, so why is he praying to God, when he is God?

3 persons in one God. Trinity. Think of the most perfect, harmonious, self-donating family you can imagine, where the love exchanged / that exists between Father and Son is so great that it’s actually a person, the Holy Spirit.

It’s a mystery.

Most of the heresies of history and to this day involve various offshoots / doubts / nuances about the Divinity of Christ. Did he have two minds, 2 wills in perfect union - a divine will and a human will…etc etc. Did his human will pre-exist His physical presence…blah blah blah.

Lots of creative people and energy spent on this. To what end must we know God in order to Love? We will not fit Him inside our little minds. This is one of the many reasons why we must seek / want to be / ever more humble. Sometimes our pride of wanting to intellectually know all the nuances gets in the way of what we’re actually supposed to do: Love…self-donate, seek holiness, seeking enough understanding of God in order to love.

This is one reason why we need - and history has shown - we need a formal authoritative Church.

I was talking to a Jehovah’s Witness about this and I asked him this question: “Disregarding Jesus for a sec, God’s law is good and God is good, God’s law (at this time) binds all Jewish men to it. Now if God were to become a Jewish man, would He be bound by the Jewish customs?”

Now praying to God is definitely an action of a righteous person, why shouldn’t Jesus be a righteous person?

EDIT: much more fun to agitate people who are not used to so many meme

So now you’re here trying to be funny by using other people’s material. That’s the problem with /b/, 99% of the population rides off the jokes a few individuals. It’s never seemed very clever to me.

Is there a moral issue in this somewhere, that perhaps I don’t understand?

I think that when Jesus prayed it was to the Father, rather than to God as the Trinity.

I have seen prayer defined someplace as the interior communication between the members of the Trinity. When we pray we are invited into that communication.

Not sure of that; so I don’t claim it as Church teaching, but I don’t think it violates any teaching.

As far as I can see there are several things to consider but one of the most prominent for me is that Jesus taught us many things, one of the most important was how to pray and what kind of relationship we should have with The Father and as in so many other ways He led us by example.

This doesn’t detract from the fact He was fully God but shows us rather that at the heart of the Blessed Trinity is communicative love between The Father and The Son through the Holy Spirit.

God Bless
