Jesus is still on the carpet!

I went to a Mass in another area today at noon. It was mostly working people taking off on their lunch break while there I was in my sahm clothes. Well, I sat in the front this time because its not my normal parish so I felt a bit more bold. Someone dropped the eucharist RIGHT in front of me on the carpet! He made a quick grab to pick it up but it crumbled!:sad_yes:
So, I was in horror. I told the priest after Mass, that there are particles on the carpet of Jesus, could he go take a look? He said well, did you see anything down there? I said yes, there were at least 2 good size crumbs there. He just said well, go up there and you can consume it. And he walked away from me.
I said, Father I can’t recieve! I am not a christian yet!
He was already turned away from me and kept walking to another man who I think is a deacon, he was dressed like one and they started talking in a serious tone. I had to leave! I tried to wait for him to stop talking but I had to go. So I found a lady that was in the lobby area and told her to please, please go up there with me so she can help. She said she was late for work!
I left him there!
I can’t go back there until I get my child from school, but they don’t have another mass until 7:00 tonight! (they have a lot of masses there! In three different languages also!)

I left a message on their main line number, and am trying to leave messages with the school too. I hope someone calls me back soon!

Goodness, what a problem for you. Shame on that priest for not taking the time to listen. I would have just gone over to where the crumbs were, picked them up and butted in with the conversation and put them in the hands of the priest.
Resting in your loving hands is much better than ground into the carpet.

Oh what a relief! The parish secretary called me back to thank me for letting them know, and she told me she consumed the particles, and wished me a merry christmas. She also wanted to know if I wanted to join the rcia, and if I wanted to join the womens bible group.
Oh, I am so relieved.

Dang good point! With the talk of the Host scattered all about I lost that little detail in the starter post. Yeppers, notsmart, you are Christian. Water baptism will be cool when it happends. But you are in the fold.

I am so excited that my husband is currently in discussions with my priest also to get formation (the RCIA program at my parish, is well- not orthodox) and he got permission for us to take lessons from him directly. The current program is teaching things that are a bit off the wall and he wants us to learn the faith correctly. And, he knows my husband will be a handful.
Being atheists, we do need the best teacher around, and I prayed for one, and I have one. He has been a priest for over 50 years and he is a funny Irish guy. Oh, that reminds me I have to make dinner early so he can go for his class and take Father out to dinner after. This way he won’t be starved and distracted while learning if I feed him first!
He agreed to meet with Father once or twice a week. This is his first class!

Excuse me but atheists don’t pray. So stop calling yourself an atheist. And since your prayer was answered I think you should consider yourself a Christian even if you are not Baptized yet. You are presently a Catechumen I guess (since you are eager and have made plans for good instruction in the faith). If you were to die you would be able to receive a Christian burial.

And in the presently unlikely circumstance that you were killed for your faith, you would be considered a Christian martyr.

Anyway, keep going to Mass and be happy you may receive instruction – not everyone who wants instruction in the faith is able to get it. Some countries are difficult places for Christians.

The first beatitude is “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” When I was still fairly new at becoming Catholic I asked my pastor if this first beatitude is the first one that greets those of us just entering the faith. He thought briefly and answered yes.

Thanks for the information on the scripture readings at Mass!
Some parishes publish them in their bulletins, but mine does not so far. I try to get the bulletins that have them in there so I know what we are going to hear at Mass before I get there. But, I just need to get closer like I did today because I can’t hear or see what is happening as well far off in the back.

Why wouldn’t the priest do this?

He did not see it happen. The man who dropped it, did a quick grab to pick it up, but not wanting to slow the line down? He just kept walking instead of pausing to see if there were any crumbs of Jesus left on the carpet. I also think he was in a hurry to go back to work. He had a business suit on. God love him for forgoing his lunch to be with Jesus instead! I want to be like that. Except, only difference is I would slow the line down, and people would get mad at me. Because I would be sure to pick up every single bit. The thought of a vacumn cleaner, or someone crushing it into the carpet!

The priest can’t stop Mass really, once begun it must be completed.

What he can do is cover the spot with an altar cloth, and then tend to it after Mass.

I was surprised though, how many were there on their lunch.
It was more than I expected to see!
I think some people are so afraid of loosing their jobs, they are in a rush. Satan’s old trick to keep our eyes off the Lord.

The priest can most certainly stop distributing for a moment to retrieve the host and consume it. He wouldn’t have a chance at my parish though. Anytime I have seen a host dropped here it was like a fumble in football – everyone was bending over trying to pick it up.

Even if the host were crushed, the line would shift out of the way and someone would IMMEDIATELY begin to retrieve the shattered host.

One time an elderly priest was distributing communion to another elderly when a host was dropped. The man straightened his neck and pulled his tongue in for a split second, then tilted it back and stuck his tongue back out. The priest waited while 2-3 of us scrambled for the dropped host.

Some that would amount to self-communion. I say in that case God grants a special grace for someone trying to keep His Son from being profaned.
