Well, what do you mean by “required death?” Jesus had to bear the Curses and Penalties of the Old Covenant because Israel was unfaithful to it. Remember, Moses set the choice to Israel between “Blessings and Curses, Life and Death.” Jesus had to die b/c of the Old Covenant.

No, I think the link between death and covenants is that the death of one of the parties is the only thing that can end a Covenant Treaty.

One of the questions that Cooldude has previously asked was, “Why did Jesus have to die?” I think one of the reasons was that Jesus, as Covenant Mediator for God died, thus freeing Israel from the remaining curse of the Mosaic Covenant… Death.
