Who’s the saint next to this beautiful Our Lady icon?
By the way, this central icon depicting Our Lord… precious!

Yes, I saw that triptych and had to get it, I have an affection for Russian Icons. The saint to the right of Our Lady is St. Pope Pius X, and the one to the left is Seraphim Sarovsky. I know he isn’t officially recognized by the Church as a saint, but I have a small devotion to him thanks to his rule for busy laity (3 Lord’s prayer, 3 Hail Mary’s morning, noon, evening with Jesus Prayer in between) and his very obviously saintly life.

I think it was St. John Paul II who referred to St. Seraphim as a “saint” so I don’t see any problem with venerating him. I like him because he had a bear for a friend. Also, his relic flew around the world in the International Space Station.

Well, first of all if it’s just your own private veneration, you can privately venerate anybody you have good reason to believe is in Heaven. You could venerate your own grandma or the Romanovs if you thought they were in Heaven. I have a whole list of people who are not canonized and many of them never will be because they weren’t Catholic but were instead Protestants who were ministers or otherwise did holy things/ lived good lives, and I read it off and say “Pray for us”.

I also have some Orthodox people who I think are likely saints. One would be St. Seraphim and another would be St. Philip II, the Metropolitan of Moscow who was murdered by Ivan the Terrible. Obviously neither one of them will have a Catholic church named for them any time soon but I don’t see the harm in asking for their prayers.

I’m a traditionalist, so there’s no need to point out who’s St.Pius X:wink:
But thanks, I had no clue who was the one represented there.

No problem. I just thought I’d clarify for anyone else reading the response

As said before it’s a matter of private devotion, but in the end they were not Catholics, and with the extra ecclesia nula salus…
I don’t know.
